➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I just found a baby asleep inside the feeder. It woke, popped up, and looked around wondering where everyone went.
I cut a hole in a water bottle for a chick feeder that "didn't" have a large enough hole for a chick to crawl in. Or so I thought. They would get inside and I have no idea how. First time, I cut the top off to get the chick out. Second through sixth times, I just took the inverted lid off. No idea why they liked getting stuck like that.

Glad to hear that this is "normal".

Today has been interesting.....cracked open last baby and doing well. Went to collect chicken eggs and the silkie that I thought was last boy has gone broody over 1 of my RIR eggs! Leaving her be for now to see what happens bc I’m 99% sure none of my silkies have laid eggs yet

Bah, that's so cool! I wish quail brooded better >.> When we're not covered in 5' of snow and my greenhouse is built I'd like to set up a bigger, more natural cage for a pair and see if I can get them to go. Well, or I will finally get those African harlequin coturnix :love

I'm very torn between being upset that my trading buddy dropped off the face of the earth (half expected, honestly), and happy because now I really do get to keep the picks of the hatch regardless of whether I get enough to fill the order

i’m not having as issue with hatching....other than my inability to leave the eggs alone that aren’t meant to be. it’s something i’m doing wrong with my brooding. i believe it was because of that stupid plate! now i have the thermometer on the heat pad and keeping things between 90 and 100* but i think the damage was already done by them getting too cold in the first 48 hours. i only had 1 hatch this time with leg problem and that was probably my fault as well.
100?
You are going to kill them!

Fiddle fudge. The pip that didn't zip is still with us. I was pulling eggs and it starts screaming. Wetted the dried membrane, popped the top and now we wait. I swear it hasn't moved in 2 days. Warming back up in the incubator now. The other seven pulled with no signs of life. I'll guess this one got stuck when I pulled the others? Shell definitely stuck to it. Baby is out and warming back up. Incubator staying on until tonight. Gave it a drink. We wait. Did not expect this. Today is 48 hours after the majority hatched.

Other 19 doing great.
The 7.
They were quitters?
Early quitters or late?
Did you open them all?

Y'all are like "ooohhh I want me a unicorn rainbow sparkle color quail", and I'm over here like "I JUST WANT QUAILS THAT CAN WALK!!! :barnie"

:lau:lau:lau

My numbers are dwindling by the day, less than 50% of those that hatched are seemingly healthy and still walking around pooping everywhere. I am tired of killing deformed baby quails:hit

My white boy, from my original blue hatch, is soooooo angry!!! He's pecking me!!!! :gig:gig

That's really distressing D: I am so sorry! :hugs

Stupid baby quail. :barnie
