➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I butchered my 12ish week old boy recently, and that little bit of fat they gain :sick:sick:sick yeah naaahhhh.
I haven't eaten any of them, so I cant offer much by way of taste. But visually, there's something so pure about not seeing any fat :idunno

And I inspect all of their organs.. because that tells me what sort of health they were in.

Hey Coturnix-- when you plucked yours recently, did you dunk in warm water before plucking?

But

it's so delicious

Also nah, I thought about it but they were pretty easy. Took me like three rounds to get most of the teeny pinfeathers and I still ate a few, though. I will probably singe them off at the end next time.

I was all inspired, and attempted plucking.. but dispatching over here is a mad panic rush before kids notice what I am doing. I pulled a few feathers, and then noticed a tear in the skin. That was enough for me!! So I skinned instead.

And now he sits in the freezer with the others.. I have no idea what to do with them :confused::confused:

It is the same over here but with cats :lau

Plucking was kind of gross and the skin does tear sometimes which is even grosser. But the skin was omfg so good. I think it is worth it for me personally.

Eaaaaat itttttt. Go stir together some honey in Dijon mustard, dump it all over the quail, slap in oven at 365F for ~22 minutes, devour ferociously. Or, like, any combination of condiments in your cabinet, they're all good.

Yeah, you do! Just stick their heads in the tail pipe on your car, CO does the trick pretty quick....just be sure your doing this outside and not on a closed garage. I did this one time to a peacock, I was going to mount it and didn't want any unnecessary cuts or feathers pulled out, or messed up. Plus ether works too and is quicker but it gets absorbed into the tissues and makes them unfit to eat.
Use co2 and a enclosed box

Wrap with bacon bake then ad bbq sauce and bake until done

Oh boy, I am handling every single one of mine at least twice a day!
(They go to outside house in morning, then back into garage house in evening). I think I'd forget to feed them if I didn't have this regime!
I try to give them insects fed from my hand several times a day (makes them waaaayyyyy easier to catch!).
The almost 3 weekers all scramble TO my hand when they see it :lau

:drool

Ever since I ate my first couple I am like "hmm...do I really like you all that much?" Honey-mustard has become the new standard by which I judge :p

Throw those birds on a BBQ!

I actually thought about it yesterday.
I was thinking that I might be able to try it.

I'm scared of the the feeling/the holding it to do it.
I do not want to feel it squirm in my hands.
I will freak out and drop it.

Me too.

Just found 2 eggs in the outside yard :celebrate looks like 2 of the 7 weekers have started to lay
:fl there's only 1 boy and 6 ladies in this possy :fl

But seriously... this find the quail eggs game is wearing thin.. why can't they just make my life easy already :th

but at least you are getting eggs! nothing from mine so far.....i’ve decided that is because no supplemental light. days are getting longer now and time change in a week so :fl:fl i see eggs from somebody by end of march!!
