I wasn’t sure if that was your reason, or if it was a “they will die without it!” thing. To keep them laying.
Edit - and breeding and all that.

Oh CoturnixI find having to keep them separated exhausting too. Much easier when they can all just be together!
My 2 original hens are all hanging with the other possy in the big outdoor pen. My littles also go outside each day - I have an xxxl steel dog crate that I covered in aviary mesh (I did initially do soft netting, but lost a few from previous gang)
It's the end of summer here in ausI HATE winter. Now I'm going to have to decide if I keep them all under extra light over winter, and then replenish stock in the spring? Oh I don't know, it's taken so long just to get to this point, and we still only have 2 bloodlines mingling together

Hi! What do you wanna talk about? Some of us have to work for a living. Sometimes harder than others.
That's another thing...I think those boys are working on building cages.
Well, I’m sorry I’m only lazy, worthless me.Hi! What do you wanna talk about? Some of us have to work for a living. Sometimes harder than others.
Good news is that I'm still employed and I'm going sleep good tonight.
By the way, 2 week old quail still in the brooder stink. Work for 14 hours and having issues doing chores. And it's been raining for another week. Should I keep complaining? I feel a little better.
That's another thing...
Cage is mostly done except for the sides, front, doors and the roof. Looking pretty good too!
Still bummed about losing the dummies. Batch #2 is 11.![]()

No, these were the ones that crammed into the feeder and suffocated. Lost 5 right off and 2 later that day. So 19 to 11. Couldn't get them into the huddle box so brought then back inside and worked extra this week. Dummies.Uh ho.
How did you lose them? They escaped?
I'm bummed and tired. Mostly tired, but BYC is refreshing.Well, I’m sorry I’m only lazy, worthless me.
I know they stink. I just cleaned the brooder again.
I’m sorry you are bummed and unhappy.

I'll go clean the brooder and when I take the top off, here come the rockets. Hilarious. They will land and I'll scoop them up and back to the brooder.
Batch #1 is still 9. 5 weeks old.
Batch #2 is 11 and holding. 2 weeks old.
