➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

When will the quail get used to Duckling? I actually had the pooper scooper* in there earlier, turning the bedding. They were all jumping on it, and letting me scoop them up! They weren’t loud, just curious as to what I had. They see Duckling**, and get nervous.
*Word of the day, “pooper scooper!” From the moment I told her what we needed at TSC. She said it over and over... before using it outside, I put it to use in the brooder.
**Duckling wasn’t around them for the first two weeks when they were too tiny to let her hold.
My adult quail freak if the Mini does anything in their cage.
They don't even flinch when I do.

Lots more were taken, but this is all he got downloaded for me so far

Dried mealworms = perfect. Just crush them up in your fingers to quail crumb size. Cricket powder is awesome too.

Quail luuurrrvvve boiled mashed eggs. Chickens too. Its part of every breakfast over here!

Thanks! You know, I feed the meal worms to the girls every evening with their bedtime snack but I’ve never gotten used to the look of them. :sick I just compartmentalize that reaction somewhere on the way-back of my brain and just feed the icky things. The chickens obviously feel very differently about them than I do. :p I looked into growing them since they’re so pricey but no. No, some things even I will not do.

I’m not into catching birds if I don’t have to. I like the cabinet style doors. I just know drop down is easier with my hutch since that’s what it had when I got it. Now if only I can find all the pieces I took off. :D The boxes are easy to find, but the walls, roof, flooring and divider is anyone’s guess after 7 years.

The rabbit people (some of them anyway) say the cage door should swing in and up, fastening with a quick release kind of a catch to the inside of the ceiling. Don’t know how well that would work for quail, but it does sound like it would (at least initially) tend to chase them back from the doorway.

Beautiful!

Does #2's coloring differ from #5? They both look red range to me but I fully believe I can't see them well.

#4 looks like she might be blue as well!
So are you saying that even though number 2 has that much white it would not be considered a tuxedo?

Pansy keeps getting described as a "chocolate Manchurian." NOW I see it! Great mottled look on that one.

I don't have any chocolates, @muddy75 and @cosmosue have to figure out what's up there.

Speaking of, dont you have a batch hatching cosmo?
Just when I think I am starting to understand something you come in and screw me all up again.:th
