➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I have had both things happen and they can look kind of similar from the outside until you start poking around.

I have not had chicks pipped that long and needing a lot of assistance that did not have other problems, @FunOnABun . I am sorry! You are still doing great. How many cheepers?

The little black pip chick was already gone when I got home today. Carefully removed some shell before determining so and there was quite a bit of blood around the pip. On the bright side, five (literally) bouncing chicks in the brooder, one sloooowly making its way out, two more wiggling away and tapping from the inside just now, and one that hasn’t pipped but still appears viable after candling. Fingers still crossed for 9 after locking down 10!

Blah, I'm sorry. :hugs I wish hatches weren't usually tinged with one or two sad ones like that.

That's so great, though! The math is close but still a chance you might get your four pullets. :fl

That is an absolutely stunning egg. I bet the bird that laid it is, too! I just googled those and they are amazing.

Oliver? Blooie was asking me whether or not, should she get some pheasants from Cackle Hatchery....her GD wanted those 'big chickens'. :gig
@Blooie lives in Wyoming and needs to know that she has to get a permit first and that the required tests and certificates for bringing pheasants in from out of state is something that most hatcheries are not willing to provide. NPIP isn't good enough for the Wyoming G&F. One of the requirements for getting the permit is the facilities inspection to make sure that none of the pheasants will be escaping.
