➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Wrap in blankets, and Hot Hands/water bottles.
Internal temp falls slower.
Thanks for the tips....I’m not too freaked out about the bators as I had several outages in the past of 4-6 hours with no major issues....more worried about the babies in outdoor Brooder with wind and rain.i put a fresh bowl of food up in the bedding box....just hoping the dummies stay up there and eat and huddle out of the wind....considering putting tarp on the hutch. The babies inside shed are out of the wind but first time they’ve been in complete darkness as I’ve always had a red or white light on them.

Why won't my turkeys hatch!!? Do they take as long as ducks?? They've been pipped since last night, all of them were pipped as of this morning. So far only two tiny triangles of shell removed.

Meanwhile, all of the quail pipped, zipped, and waited impatiently to be taken to the brooder.

I haven't hatched turkeys in quite a few years but best I remember, they will pip, then rest for 18 to 24 hours before resuming zipping. @R2elk can most definitely tell you what to expect.

:barnie:hitPower outage here at 7:30....estimate to be restored is midnight!! No heat to brooder babies and no incubator power!! :fl:fl They get it restored fast as temps falling below freezing overnight and I have 2 dozen damp 2.5 week olds!!
Muddy, do you have any oil lamps? When I have lost power I use my kerosene lamps in the brooders, have to be careful how you set them up but they don't get chilled.

Good to hear the powers back on. I collect antique oil lamps, so I have plenty to use when the power goes out here  I even have some of the antique brooder lamps. You just have to be careful with them and not get them to close to combustibles.

i have a rechargeable camping lantern that I use to check on birds when necessary after dark but even it was starting to get low on me......luckily i had my usb battery pack handy from our fishing trip and plugged it in for the last few minutes. the really crazy thing about our neighborhood is that the outages usually only happen on our side of the street!! we used to have a portable generator but hubby got tired of dealing with it and we had one installed in the camper that we have now.

Yeah, same thing happens here, too! They switch the lines just before it gets to me, a seperate line runs on the other side of the road.
