āž” Quail Hatch Along🄚

Shorts are winter gear. I am confused.

Wear pants in the summer to keep the mosquitoes & snakes off the legs.

So, if the average night time temperature is in the 70's, do I need a heat lamp in the brooder? I'm thinking not.
 I admit I wear shorts in the winter. I was thinking of Duckling when I said it. Poor kid finally got to wear her new swimsuit a few days ago. Now I have to wrestle her into gloves to play outside for more than a few minutes, and the tent hasn’t been used lately. Soooooo sad. The ice under my flip flops is kinda slippery too.

After days of shorts, I was almost in tears when it began snowing. I still have not put away the snow shovels or winter gear.
I was literally going to space bag all the coats, flannels, fleeces, thick socks, and winter blankets away this week. Haven't had snow since feb but our low on day is 34...which can mean snow all day if we have the right wind. Ugh.

I want to to put your hen's eggs in on purpose.

You gotta fine tune the bator before you get real eggs.

And...you don't work the first few days.
You can't leave the bators side.
And you only get 30 minute naps. No real sleeping allowed.

This only applies with real eggs though.
If you know your bator and trust it you are allowed to work and sleep.

:lau OMG well this sale might not work then LOL working a ton this week. Can’t cancel any of them either lol one is a huge job.

But the thing about my hens eggs makes sense. Although I don’t get what I would see or learn? What would happen? Like what’s the goal of it? Do the air cells shrink??
Air cells get larger. You would be testing how it holds it's humidity and temperature with actual eggs in it since there is some fluctuation with it being empty and actually having something in it.

13 eggs in the incubator. The other dozen were tempting, but if 18 eggs hatch, I’m done for!
 The dog was begging for an egg. I tried to break a quail egg on the sidewalk, but it didn’t really break. So he just ate the whole thing. :lau
I literally cannot figure it out. Why do quail lay so late in the day? It was at least four when I last checked. I almost didn’t check now! Five eggs.

Thanks!! That makes a lot of sense!! Can I set refrigerated eggs?? Those are the only ones I have right now!! And how many eggs do I need to set to be sure/for it to work!? I have 15 right now (and one really cracked/broken one). I was gonna save some to give to a neighbor but a bunch of them are so small. :/ so maybe I’ll set all the tiny ones and wait for them to lay some bigger ones lol although they’ve slowed down recently and idk why. Maybe they are bothered by the new chicks and having slightly less space?? And/or by the very unusually cold and rainy weather we’ve had lately?? Cause we were getting like 5 a day and now it’s like 1-3 ha

Set the tiny ones. Quail eggs are small anyways.

Probably the new chicks causing them to not lay as often, ours are finicky like that too.
