We've been getting cougars and bears nearby too. There was a cougar at a local mall last month. I'm in a populated enough area that I'm unlikely to see those, but I'm definitely looking at making sure that the skunks, raccoons, and 'possums keep away from my quail. When I finally get them. The eggs are supposed to ship this coming week! It's not often you see one this small, usually their 5' to 6' and big around as a coffee can.
I have lived here for 37 years and for the last 3 years, I have only seen 3 rattlesnakes on my place. Copperheads, Bullsnakes and Coral snakes, yeah, but not Rattler's.
The little ones scare me more than the big ones...the little ones don't have enough or big enough rattles to make any noise.
Kiki, how do you calibrate the thermometer on these AccuRites? I don't use them for a thermometer, only a hygrometer. So I'm asking, how someone would calibrate the thermometer...it's not like you can calibrate them in the conventional manner, boiling water & freezing water.
Mighty fine shootin’, Tex.Look at what I found an hour ago, next to a waterer in my pens. Another reason Texans carry a gun, even on their own property for these 'uninvited' guests. This is a small one. View attachment 1813591

you know you can cut back straps out of coyotes and pretty darn tasty!!....especially where you are being not too warm yet!DH took out a coyote for me yesterday with a 308. Clear across the back yard, trotting along at a fair clip. I figured he’d miss. He thought the same but he hit it dead on. I think it was stalking one of my meaties that I’d set in the fenced part of the back yard because she’d hurt her leg.
