It's not often you see one this small, usually their 5' to 6' and big around as a coffee can.
I have lived here for 37 years and for the last 3 years, I have only seen 3 rattlesnakes on my place. Copperheads, Bullsnakes and Coral snakes, yeah, but not Rattler's.
The little ones scare me more than the big ones...the little ones don't have enough or big enough rattles to make any noise.
We've been getting cougars and bears nearby too. There was a cougar at a local mall last month. I'm in a populated enough area that I'm unlikely to see those, but I'm definitely looking at making sure that the skunks, raccoons, and 'possums keep away from my quail. When I finally get them. The eggs are supposed to ship this coming week!

Kiki, how do you calibrate the thermometer on these AccuRites? I don't use them for a thermometer, only a hygrometer. So I'm asking, how someone would calibrate the thermometer...it's not like you can calibrate them in the conventional manner, boiling water & freezing water.
I can compare it to a known accurate thermometer but that's not the same as calibrating.

DH took out a coyote for me yesterday with a 308. Clear across the back yard, trotting along at a fair clip. I figured he’d miss. He thought the same but he hit it dead on. I think it was stalking one of my meaties that I’d set in the fenced part of the back yard because she’d hurt her leg.

you know you can cut back straps out of coyotes and pretty darn tasty!!....especially where you are being not too warm yet!

Finally all caught up :thive had two new charges a few days. MiL breeds Australian shepherds and these two arent thriving so were tryn to save em. Im only enlisted as a last resort as my plate is so full but were optimistic for them at this point :)

* through tiny sharp wire doors

I saw where someone recommended cutting a hose longways and wiring it over those edges. I did it to one of mine makes a big difference!

step in a pan of bleach

This is all i do and havent had issues w people coming over. I have had several BYCers come over and i love to share my (also humble/meager) home with the wonderful people ive met here. Craigslisters too just wear good boots and ill bring the bleach and foot bath to you in the driveway.

Plus the little ones are more likely to deliver a fatal bite as the older ones dont wanna waste venom on you while they know they cant eat you they hand out more "dry bites."
