āž” Quail Hatch Along🄚

I might not be helpful because my answer will be that one to everything :D

:lau but they wont all fit in one cage :p whatll those genes do with other types though? Is it reccesive?

Bonus question: How do you get a Blue?

Dh is no longer building cages and as youve seen i just zip tie everything together  its musical coops for us til the bunny cage gets here and quail-ified(adding 7 holes under a trampoline frame)

<--My avatar dude threw 7/7 colored chicks matched with a pharoah hen from a mostly-pharoah line so I figure it has to be at least partially dominant. I think it might be a normal dominant and he might be homozygous for it but I haven't confirmed that.

With another blue! Or silver. Maybe. I think they are the same gene, and females and males respectively. I think. I haven't confirmed it. But I also haven't disproven it, it's always held up for me and everyone I've run across so far (kind of, it's complicated, "silver pharoahs" also look a lot like "tan" silvers and I've had normal silvers throw them and they might be related somehow also). Either way they're both lethal dominants so you want to breed them to non silvers/blues.

Wow great info thank you so much! :bow im gonna go sleep on that and hope it absorbs  complicated genetics aren't my strong suit

I'm not good at explaining things either.

Basically, if I'm right your charcoal will, when bred to a wild type , either:

-throw ~50% charcoals in which case it has 1 copy of the gene (heterozygous)

OR

-throw ~100% charcoals in which case it has 2 copies of the gene (homozygous)

There will probably be some variation in the offspring no matter what (I got more than I expected, but all obviously with his base color and just being acted on by modifiers the hen was carrying).

If you breed it to another color other than pharoah/wild-type they might each win out or they might create something new together.

If it throws nothing special I was probably wrong about how the gene works.

And if you can find silvers locally there's a chance you might get blues from them so give it a whirl. Otherwise, you'might have to order some online. The "SSC" birds have a chance of throwing them, or charcoal, lavender, and a number of others.

JMF is local

You explained it fine! i understand the very dull edges, but it takes a Lot of study to get Any of it to Really sink in. Also its midnight here. I think i only have 1 pharoah in the whole hatch :lau then 3 older ones and one older silver. So far weve identified colors: Tibetan, snowie, german pastel, charcoal, falb fee, chocolate, red range, pansy, roux dilute, Italian. Still lots more finer details to note and subdivide. Ill be sad to send any of these beauties to freezer camp.
