➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Ugh. I don't check this for a day and some cents and yall add like 8 pagessss. In other news aviary skeleton is up. Gonna start attaching hwc maybe after the holiday. Gonna make CC help make a judgment call about doing a skirt or floor or both...

It is not worrisome. he is a very busy man and often his shipments leave late, he forgot to even message me that he shipped the first batch then they went to the wrong place and its a huge mess. Still top of the line stock and i was beyond pleased when i got em. He tries to cater to our lil 100 egg orders but in reality he has a much larger operation than what private breeders usually do and still even allow smallish orders. Hes been saying to me that hes going to phase the colors out because he makes the bulk of his business with the pharoah's.
He called me and he's had a stint in the hospital and had to catch up on over 1000 messages plus emails! They arrive at CC's on Monday :ya

a little worrisome but probably just taking longer than planned to fill the order......jmf one of few that advertises celadon so probably high demand/short supply issue....(.myshire only has occasional availability in auction only) i was lucky to get my 15.
He said they started slowing way down in production, we got the last reservation of that celadon line everrrr.
We're good!

They shipped today! We just got the notice and they should be here Monday. Perfect weather imo, 60s-70s. And he threw in extra "research" ones again. :woot
Yeah apparently the extras *may* be jumbo, pansy, lavender, or charcoal :D
I'm so excited for the mystery eggs. Ugh 3 more weeks!

first hatch @ around 3pm....falb fee, next was a “yeller” followed by a jumbo. incubator registered day 17 around 7pm. Lots of pips so hoping they start popping overnight!!
when I did my afternoon feeding, I noticed some feather-picking had occurred in the baby cage.....most of my quailies were missing some back and tail feathers. One of my tuxedos had a bald and bloody butt!! I blamed the MM’s and threw the 3 largest out into gen-pop! moved little plucky butt in shed with the 1 weekers. it was looking better when i checked tonight. hopefully hubby will be feeling better soon so I can get him back to helping with clean-up and building stuff!!

New issue. Out of the 28 that hatched, there are size differences. 2 passed earlier this week. Today, I have 1 that cannot stand. Looks like a balance issue. Another that is walking in circles with a crusty ear. I picked this one up, examined and put back down. It fell, flopped to back and could not stand up. Then the head bent upwards and touched the tail. 24 others appear to be fine.

The buffalo gnats don't appear to be here. Do have some small flies, so won't rule it out completely, but don't see the swollen eyes like last time.

Got vitamins for TSC. Start those tomorrow. Can start spraying. It just rained, so maybe flies.

Anything I am missing? Anyone seeing anything similar? Appreciate the help all you beautiful people. Cheers.

i sure wish i could offer some insight but most of mine at this stage are either undeterminable or they got wet. were you able to find fly control that works? We bought one of the new “light” kind and I’ve not been overly impressed but we also hung 4 or 5 of the disposable EZ traps around the aviary and chicken yard that are working great on all types of bugs (even no-see-ums) just picked up some rubber stoppers for hubby to drill hole and dump/refill vs buying new ones! my only issue with them is when I have to bend over near one to collect an egg and I bump one and spill it on me!!:sick

At that age it could be quail bronchitis. Throwing their head back (raleing) is indicative of a respiratory disease.

@Nabiki congrats on progress!

Btw! if you feel up for a coastal scavenger hunt I'm gonna be at Portuguese beach around 1 or 2. The search for salmon guy is ONNN! and of course we can talk quail :drool
Oh, that sounds good. Too bad I have to finish painting the wood for my quail hutch/run today. It's back to work tomorrow. (I know, I'm cutting it close on the hutch, but all of the materials have been purchased, and putting it together shouldn't take long.)
