It really is shredded coconut. Pretty stringy for bathing in.

It’s what we hermit crab owners use.

Only for hermit crabs.

LOL I posted my reply before I read @BullChick 's

My brother uses it as bedding in his snake terrarium. It worked with for quail too. Its best to expand it (you add water) and then let it dry a bit so it becomes absorbent but fluffy. It is a bit pricy though compared to pine shavings.

I found some marketed as kind of a potting soil substitute/addition and was thinking of trying this in their dirt trays for bathing in. Anyone know if the texture might be right for that or would it be too course? Or maybe they make different kinds?
Giantttt quote tree because idk how to make spoilers here
I found a few places who do bricks or truckloads, in 2-3 different consistencies. The stuff they market as soil conditioner sounds way more fine and powdery than the weed barrier mulchy stuff...I'm not a fan of pine shavings or anything else dusty which is why I'm looking for alternatives. Our native dirt is ultra dense red clay so I really don't want to add to the fine particulates floating around.
