Try to take pictures every other day or so (or every day) of the different colors till they are fully feathered. Then you will know for future hatches what they will feather out as. It should only take about 8 weeks.

Really i hope im not even keeping these things all that long i wanna find some dork(like me,) give him/her instructions to pair em off n feed em and run for the hills. I cant do 4 more button pens. That white thing though... idk why i like all white birds but i do i just had to see these things hatch. I have my adult pair and ill let anybody buy some eggs so they can fool w em but i wont hatch em unprompted again. Then again maybe everyone i come across wants some? I did a CL ad and drew 3 interested people(who flaked) before i finally found someone real at the swap i went to for making sales.

Its just not me, the pet things, i could do 4 more pens of cots though! Boy id love that

ETA: Actually the plan is to add 7 more cages asap with my uncles trampline frame +hanging cages setup he had for his bunnies. Jus gotta go an hr over there and take it apart to haul it home. Might make an 8th of the whole ground inside of it for layers too.

Umm, the two CX I raised were mean. Hangry mean. I didn't limit their food on purpose, but they would eat it all by the time I got home from work, and they started biting me when I would reach in the cage to grab the food container. I still have a mark on my hand from the rooster.

They were delicious.

Thanksgiving and Christmas were BBW turkeys. Friendly, and sweet as can be. They were also food, and I knew it. They were the first birds I could eat without guilt. Not only did I get them for eating, but I knew they couldn’t live long, healthy lives. Unlike a grocery store turkey, they were happy until the end. He dressed out at ... 32 or 36 pounds. She was 21. They still walked just fine. He took two roasting pans.
I have never heard of 20 minutes of food once a day. I went with 12 hours on, 12 hours off. Huge pen (27’ x 46’) for grazing on grass.

Pfft. I can too hide. All I need to do is outrun you long enough to slip into one of my hidden igloos, which should be easy since you keep fainting and stuff and probably have no endurance.

Agreed, they're very, um, serious about their food. I had one 9 wk old cockerel fly up three feet and land on a ledge in an attempt to reach his food bowl.

And oh wow that is seriously impressive!! Lol thought they weren’t supposed to be able to fly or move?

I took a different approach with my bb’s I start mine early August and feed 24 hours at will and my thanksgiving dressed at 18.5 lbs which was still a bit large for our fryer. I waited on the other 2 until January and they dressed at 14.5 and 18 lbs. planning for only 2 this time same target weight between 15 and 18 lbs

Wow they grow fast!! Those are some big turkeys!!

So is there still time to start some then? I figured it would be too late but now kind of wanting to have some thanksgiving turkeys LOL

Should probably start with chickens or quail though first.

I don't really measure it. I make them compete with the layers for food. They get 2 gallon pans filled with layer pellets every day; once that is gone, they have to forage for grass and bugs or they go hungry.

You have just enough time. Because of the large cavity, it is easier to get everything out. I think you should do it!!
