This one is the smallest. Note that the weight includes that of the bandaids on his tiny little ant feet. He's probably only 2 of those grams himself.

This is curled toes #1. I'm still debating on whether to splint him or not.

OMG they are the cutest things I’ve ever seen. :love

 Oh my goodness, I think that little quail with the foot bandaids is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen!! I need to think about getting me some buttons!
You most certainly do. :love

Also YES!! Bandage that first one!!! He needs it lol he doesn’t look too bad so he’ll probably be fine/normal if you do lol it probably won’t take long either. Do it! You already did the worse one haha
"Probably won't take long", she says. :lau
Ordinarily I would, but their size gives me pause. I simply don't have the motor dexterity required to align it perfectly, and improper splinting runs the risk of crippling the bird, I think. In addition, I need to take it off in two days, and that won't be easy to do with how fragile their legs are and how sticky the tape is. It's worth the risk and hassle if it is going to impact the chick's quality of life, but that? It'll be cosmetic at worst. I don't know. We'll see.

You did what?
:barnie:barnie:barnie
Let the babies home alone to hatch all by themselves.
I'm dying.:th
yes, a bit of poor timing on my part! but if anything like last few batches....i’ll still be waiting on them when i get home! i’ll try to call my son tonight and have him look in on them. day 17 doesn’t start until 8pm tomorrow.

Interesting day. Butchered the layers at 8 months old. Butchered 4 jumbos at 7 weeks old. These were my 3 problem quail plus a male that just got scalped. Yeach!

Problem jumbo quail:
Leg problem from earlier. Doing meh. Male and small.
One eyed. Doing good. Male and medium.
Female I put in with problems for company before I found out all were male. She broke her wing. I'm guessing getting away from the males.
Then the scalped male from the big cage. Time to separate.

Tomorrow we clean cages. Segregate. Select breeders versus the grow outs. 20 jumbos - 4 leaves 16 potentials. Need to count girls.

Did keep the white girls for eggs. They are doing great.

Need an opinion. The Townhouse and bird cage have vertical bars, does anyone have experience keeping quail in these? I'm guessing female got one wing through the bars. Will rearrange the cage, but didn't want an empty cage.

Can you wrap it with hardware cloth?

Well that nulls my idea of suplus otherwise junk chicken wire. I have abunch of it laying around from tearing off of things ive bought.
Tell her hardware cloth isn't redneck. The stuff is expensive.

And guess what...
Bloody #7 has externally popped.
I can not believe it.
