➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

after my post this morning I went out to feed. I’m still absolutely sick and in utter shock as something triggered an early morning “massacre” my aviary looked like a slaughterhouse!!! we were able to process most of the meat after wrangling all the chukars and pheasants into the chicken area. I lost over a dozen of my quail!!! not sure how many more may die today from trauma/shock not evident this morning. several were my layers and some were my favorites including my falb fee tux! :hit:hit
will definitely be completing some sort of permanent separation this weekend.
Oh no.

Oh no.

It's the netting on top right?
Where the bad guy is getting in?

Oh no...this sucks.

Do you think something got in or was it one (or more) of your birds?

Oh no...this sucks.

the culprit(s) were inside.....perimeter/netting secure. our best theory is that cull yesterday changed the pecking order/breeding dynamic among the quail and fighting/small wounds from “quail on quail” triggered the chukars to attack at random.

Oh no!
Eat the chuks tonight!

So my husband finished the grow out pen yesterday. We sized it to fit under the coop for weather protection but also put wheels on the back to make moving it around easier. It is light enough to tuck under the deck during the off season if needed as well.
