He wants a dozen butchered birds :th SO my dear ladies and gentlemen what do i charge after all the work i put into em? I saw someome asking 7$ each on CL but that seems like too much  jus about guaranteed theirs are smaller than mine too ;)
Around here they charge $10-15 for regular size and $20 for jumbo. I live in one of the most expensive places to live in the country, though.

I can buy a pack of 6 whole quail at my grocery store for $10.

This was the surprise I found last night. I didn't know she was seriously broody. Please excuse the poop, I hadn't had a chance to clean the tote for a few weeks and now I'm afraid to with the little ones. The silver is the dad, brown is the mom. Looks like maybe 3 different colors on the 4 chicks.

:eek::eek::eek:
Your quail hatched some eggs???

Sick of poultry?!? You may need a new family. :D I'd like to volunteer! :lau Wanna adopt me and Kiki? May get Tes in on this too.

Price for butchered quail. Myshire is advertising a 4 pack for $20. Boy, that seems cheap after all the love, sweat and tears that I've poured into these tiny turds. Assume 10 oz each butchered, that is $8/pound of FINE dining experience.

Each quail is 1 lb live weight. $5 per bird or $5 a pound. ($8.33 butchered/pound at 60% meat.)

How much are you selling live birds for? Sell him the live cost plus a modest processing fee. $7 processed doesn't sound too far off. $8 is better. $9 sounds good, too. Your time, equipment and knowledge has a cost.

How much does feed cost? I'd be interested to know cost to grow out. I'm not patient enough to keep my own records.

Yes ill adopt yall! Send the DH and teen out there but yall gotta put up w my toddlers, they not goin no wheres.

Good to know what the hatchery is asking thats probly bottom dollar and thats what i ask live 5$ each extra male hens are undetermined but i have a waiting list for reds.

Crunching numbers to figure out grow out cost --ill have more on that in a moment.

7$ each for 12 is freakn 84$ can i really ask that of him? They have been so good to us, even sent 100$ worth of Christmas presents for the kids, lived here 3 years. I sent them cupcakes, they sent me a cake. 5$ each is 60, thats doing pretty good i think.

Sell the birds, you can always fill the freezer later with more. Do you have rabbits yet? That's a good alternative if your family is tired of poultry..

Thanks, thats what i figured on. Come winter that crock pot will make some good ole hot meals. No ma'am i kinda dont like rabbits  I had em a few yrs ago, didnt do well with them. one wouldnt mate, one escaped and got eaten by the dog :rant never did have babies. too hot here too i was so worried about heat stroke had to run a fan constantly.

I love toddlers! Their minds are so much fun to play with. Look at the horses! Mooo!

If we send all our quails to Nabiki to market and sell, we might get rich. Wonder how big the market is.

I live in a town of about 65K. There is one shop that I know of where you can get quail. Sometimes. I don't know how much they sell when they get them, though.

Ask em. Ask if they'd be interested in a supply of quail and what requirements they have for you to sell, could make some good money. I need to find a store like that here.

I probably should. There are lots of yuppie/foodie types in the wine country that there has to be a market for them. In the meantime, I'll look up the permits and stuff that I would need. I don't have huge amounts of space, though, so I'm limited on how much I can supply.
