āž” Quail Hatch Along🄚

You been workn too much? You hadnt been posting here. Doing anymore hatching this yr?
Yep, I've been working. Nope, breeding seasons over and I'm tired of taking care of chicks anyway. The last hatch was a month ago, 1 Bianchi chick, out of 3 eggs set, end of the season, didn't think they were fertile because they were starting to molt, and 6 out of 7 Mexican Speckeled quail eggs set....the 'fake quail' as Kiki called them...I was just checking for fertility, as they just started to lay and was going to toss'em  but couldn't do it and they hatched.
I hatched out over 200 chicks this year.

Well i hope u get more time here even though u dont plan to hatch anymore, i feel like im always yapping away! I guess the wet is keeping the temps down slighty compared to yall extending my breeding season. The chcickens have slowed down a little but not too bad.

They started a little earlier this year, so it seems like it was shorter but it really wasn't....every year's the same, can't wait to hatch, then can't wait for it to be over! :lau
Now, I'm just trying to sell the stupid things....another one of those love/hate relationship!

These are the ones I really want to get rid of right now. Didn't lay a single egg this year...free loaders, :lau wouldn't quit laying last year? Don't have a clue for the reason but I have noticed alot of reproductive problems with melanistic pheasants through the years of raising them, Blue, Black or Green, makes no difference, all have some repro problems. :idunno

I have ads on Craigslist, Birds Now, and another member here tells everyone who comes to buy her peachicks I have pheasants for sale. She got her pheasants from me and if she doesn't have any pheasant chicks for sale (she only sells chicks) doesn't have room to keep them as long as I do, she sends them my way.
Here's a few more I'm selling right now!

How on earth do you keep rats out of those enclosures? Something buried below the surface?
There is an apron, extends 2' out from the enclosure all the way around, some of the pens have concrete pour on top of the apron others just small rocks and soil, about a foot deep. No rats but mice. I have bait traps out and a feral cat takes care of most of the mice. :D
These pens are pretty large. 30' x 40'

No rats? :O Wish I could say that.. Lost 2 cots and a cockatiel to rats within the last few months - they chewed their way into the aviary through the wooden door. I'm feeding my chickens half the usual amount to make sure there are no left overs for the rats and this has caused them to steal food in places they usually don't go - they stole 500 grams of rabbit treats a few nights ago - I didn't think those were attractive to the rats since they'd been there for several weeks without being touched, but apparently cutting back on the chicken feed made the rabbit treats attractive.. I really need a proper place to store all of my feed.
