➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

aside from the breast color on the wild type are there color differences in the other colors of the coturnix quail so you can sex them?
there are many feather-sexable colors including pharaoh, pansy, pearl, grau, egyptian, falb fee, some pastel?? those that are not feather-sexable include a&m, english white, scarlet, rosetta, tibetan, silvers/ssc, and all tuxedos. (other color gurus feel free to chime in if i’ve put any in wrong group or left out any).....those that are not feather-sexable can typically be vent sexed or “vocally” sexed by 6 or so weeks.

I was hoping you would weigh in. Ive been wondering if i should tryn close up my quail cages with plastic. You know i live in the south we battle the heat for all u do with the snow. We had just a handful of days under freezing last year but the year before we had Two Freak snowstorms. Ive seen snow like a handful of times in my whole life and that was a Really Insane winter. Many days it will be 50-70*F. I understand ill have to take precations with the waterers, aside from that though. My coops are all built for serious airflow in our heat. Not one heat stroke all year with indices regularly at 110* no fans just good shade and constant water. Two are compleatly open all the way around, four have solid backs one of those has solid sides and 5 have wire bottoms. Its normal for us to have swings of 50*F in a single day and swings of 70*F in a week isnt uncommon.
almost sounds like your weather is actually similar to ours! People say you can’t have all 4 seasons in a single day....well southern indiana replied “hold my beer and watch this!!”:gigkentucky has a similar saying but instead of beer, it’s “hold my bourbon”

Idk, all four sides are open and it still rains when its 40*. We get alot of rain over here and it makes for a wet cold
the wet-cold is a threat....here it warms up to 40ish, rains/floods and then drops to bitter cold and repeats.....adult quail can handle it pretty well but the 4-6 week mark, they can be more vulnerable if wet and cold! i had lots of problems here in march-may due to flooding and rainy cold spells. i personally would opt for some plastic to keep out rain/drafts in blowing cold/rainy conditions if cage is open on all sides.

Just 'helped' 4 quail and an extra svart Hona cockrel. Was the first time i saw the black meat in person and Wow!

lmk how the black meat on svart hona tastes....i wasn’t impressed with silkie......beast meat was edible but the texture of thigh and leg meat just didn’t appeal to me nor dh.

Well They are supposed to have some celedon in them so im hoping that they are celedon also not just the two celedon
my theory is that the blue inside is a celadon carrier but incomplete....but fyi if you ordered/received celadon....there is a higher probability that colors will not be feather-sexable.

It's getting to be that time. I came home today and one of my roos was dead of violence. I have three left. I don't wanna! :hit

I plan on doing the deed on Saturday. I can't make myself do it tonight, and I have a long day tomorrow.
we did the first round of the deed today.....took out 16 males! we should get our “certified” letter from the city tomorrow as missed first attempt today. plan is to take out more males tomorrow and possibly others depending on the details of the letter. :hit
