OK so another question are the quail that we have Coturnix Japicona or are they Coturnix Coturnix?
Coturnix japonica, C. coturnix was however domesticated by the ancient Egyptians but that line died out somewhere along the way since and all cots now are from the Japanese species. Apparently before world war 2, there were also Japanese coturnix bred specifically for their calls, called song quails! The breed went extinct after WW2.
