i’m extremely happy so far with the difference in photo quality!! Halloween babies.......having trouble getting temp balanced with weather extremes.....i really need to get a ceramic reptile lamp!!!

Do you mean in your outdoor aviary or your brooder? If brooder... You could try a seedling starter mat under the bedding (not covering the whole floor, so they can get away if hot) I used one for my goslings because it was what I had. It worked well, and very easy to clean off—Amazon has cheap ones.

I love the black heat “bulbs.” They’re expensive but so worth it. I love heating pads too, but I have heard the “mama hen heating pads” are less than optimal for quail. They do give the babies lots of leeway for choosing their comfort level, plus a nice dark cubby to hide in and feel safe. Or suicide in...

You can! Go into settings and Change Nickname. I'm not sure if you can still only do it once, or if they've changed to to once a year, though.

Aww thanks. I’m 60—I just turned old this year. I’d say I don’t feel old, but I sure felt old for a couple days after putting up that greenhouse. Being old sucks, but what’re ya gonna do? At least I think I may have shed most of the “stupid”... or maybe not quite yet. I do keep looking back, oh, a month or so and thinking, “Man was I dumb back then!”

the chicks i lost were in the brooder....i think i have finally found a balance....we re-angled the heat lamp to one corner so they can better escape it. i’ve tried heating pad, brooder plate, heat lamp.....only thing i haven’t tried yet is ceramic bulb but i plan to for next years hatches. the outdoor aviary quail on the other hand are tolerating the cold much better than expected so far. we added the heated waterers last night and the straw.
