Poop happens alot with quailies!!!

You should've seen the size of them testicles in those 5 week old birds last night!!! DFIL was even impressed when he was helping clean them.

You might want to make sure that your water is not leaking or is not getting spilled.

I just didn't have enough water in it to start with, but there were more birds than I was used to in that box, drank it up fast under that heat lamp. They run through it..... literally.
I'd gotten tied up outside with Bobs, boys, and the farrier..... excuses excuses.

My second hatch has gone completely stress-free because of her and everything she had told me on my first hatch.

My air cells look amazing. I only had 1 egg quit out of my eggs. I can't wait to see what comes out!

These last 2 hatches did really well, since I changed to a dry hatch until lockdown. 66 out of 89 hatched, I think 10 were clears. Pretty good odds, I think. There were a few quitters.

I wouldn't be skeptical of them because they are done by actual doctors. They are actual studies that have been performed.

Oh, that's what I meant. I'm skeptical of people claiming that this or that is a cure for some ailment or another without actual doctor/scientist written papers. I read about quail eggs being good for allergies and didn't believe it until I started reading some papers written by actual, reputable researchers.

I mostly just freak out if people get animals before they can properly take care of them....have a place to put them.... And it drives me absolutely insane to see people sell sick animals.

I actually was part of a study last year. It was on a subcutaneous medication. It was pretty cool except the fact that when you are done the study, you usually can't get the medication because you have to wait for FDA approval. My insurance denied me getting the medication, so I had to go to a plan B. Coming off of the medication was awful, I felt like I was going to die.

You'd think that would be part of the study. Good to know in case I ever volunteer for something like that.

One of the things that drives me nuts are all of the supplements (that may or may not do any good and might actually do some harm) and quack cures that are on the market. "All natural" does not automatically mean good. A lot of truly virulent poisons are "all natural" too. Just take a look at hemlock or some mushrooms.

Do you breed them mainly for meat? Or pets/colors too? I was breeding mine for pets/colors only because I thought they wouldn't have enough meat on them to be worth it. Do you keep yours in pairs or in groups?

I breed for colors, so at times I hatch a lot. I've got a ridiculous variety of color/mutation combinations. I'm focusing developing two or three right now, so I'm not hatching quite as many. I do sell live birds, but once I get 20 or so 8 week or older birds that haven't sold, I butcher them. I wasn't sure it was worth it, but I talked to someone who serves them as hor d'euvres and figured I'd try it. He uses the whole bird, but breasting them out works better for me.

I have a variety of set ups. Much depends on the personalities if the birds and what I'm breeding for. I have pairs, trios, two males to three hens (the most successful grouping), one larger colony, 10-15 hens in a group, and some bachelor groups that vary in size.
