My wife will be home
Is someone going to be home to keep an eye on them and move them to the brooder?
Great because I was getting worried that they were going to starve to death in the incubator. My wife will be home
Just know that choosing the wrong cockerel can stress your flock out. You won't know until they hit that hormonal age and after it peaks out if they'll be good for the flock.
Choose the gentle kind one. Just because they're human friendly doesn't mean they won't be good with watching the ladies.
If they're more focused on you, they're not a good choice. Get one that focuses on the flock and could care less about your presence.
Just a few things I've learnedDon't choose a Sid unless it's for the stew pot

Oh, I will be there!!!!
I love free things!!!
Probably be WCF that'll win!!!!
I use too...back in the "dark ages"
I had decent hatches back then with a Brower, round, galvanized, still air bator! I'm sure its alot easier to get decent results now days from "hand turn" bators, both still air and forced air. I'm not going back to them though. "Plug & Play is the name of the game, now days!![]()
Well see, I have to remove my 9 chicken & 8 guinea eggs from my large GQF & put them over into my GoodMother for the last week of their time, too many to use its little turner....
Iām gonna be home tomorrowGreat because I was getting worried that they were going to starve to death in the incubator.
Is there a way that you could choose two of them and get rid of the rest then you can choose between the two once they hit that hormonal stage... I'm glad I kept both my jersey giants until I chose one of the two.Thank you! Very helpful! I may not keep one. Idk. Still havenāt decided yet. I donāt think I can keep them all for that long. I was thinking till spring or possibly shorter just so I can tell for sure how many boys I have and get at least a little bit better idea of their personalities. But I know thatās not really a good evaluation till theyāre much older so idk.
Iām trying not to handle them a ton so they donāt become overly friendly/disrespectful but I have a favorite already haha
And I did hold one the other day and he fell asleep in my arms/was cooing lol

I honestly think you should get a bantam rooster, they're so much better lol

I'd do a bantam rooster. They're quieter, smaller, more gentle, and easier on the girls.I mean, I probably could but idk. So far I only have 3 definite boys so I could probably keep them all for now but once they start crowing Iām not sure. :/
My parents didnāt used to want a rooster and my dad still doesnāt but I think my mom would be okay with me keeping one and my dad will be too. But the coops are right outside our bedroom windows and we also have close neighbors back there so if they all start crowing...
I could potentially keep them in the garage if they crow a ton but not ideal.
I might just have to choose and see and hope I donāt choose wrong.
I honestly almost ordered some OEGB straight run cause I wanted a roo but I kinda wanna keep one I hatch but idk.
I am getting those straight run bantam Cochins so maybe Iāll just keep one of those instead.![]()
