Place one AFTER you FINISH building housing.

You can't keep ordering birds and pretend/trick yourself into thinking you are going to build them a house.

Build it first, before you even place the order.

Yeah, I guess you’re right there, but it always gets built eventually. But I should probably start trying to plan before I do stuff.

For me though, I don’t even think I ever even really wanted these ones. I think it was just an impulse/rash thing because people were talking about those breeds and I decided I wanted to try them. But that’s not good and I should have thought it through more.

I will cancel it. But not only for that reason. I also just have way more important things I want to focus on. Like finding a job, moving out, and I also want to get a dog, so I really should not be ordering more chickens or any animal.

I actually have been doing that sort of thing, the impulsively buying animals thing, kind of a lot lately which is really really bad and I need to figure it out because I never ever would have done that previously. I’ve always been an impulsive shopper but never with living animals. But now I’ve bought the betta fish before I even had the stuff, the hatching eggs, etc. and I think because my parents approved one new batch of chicks (the ones last year), I think I can suddenly triple my numbers in one year.

I need to stop and think about things more. But I guess the good news is at least I realize it’s a problem and want to stop it. I’ll cancel the order.

If I remember correctly you have too many birds almost crammed in your current coop.
You have birds stuck in a garage with no where to put them and you ordered more.

That is wrong.

I don't want to hear one excuse again either.

Okay, I get the frustration, and you’re right that I shouldn’t have ordered them, and I’ve since canceled the order, and I fully admit ordering more birds before I have the coop built for the new ones is a problem, but there’s no need to imply the other chickens aren’t being taken care of or are unhappy.

I love my chickens and they’re not crammed anywhere.

Yes, I have a little bit more chickens in it than usually recommended, but they’re all perfectly healthy and happy still and laying eggs.

I also only have 11 birds in it so only 3 over the recommended amount for the floor space but I then also have massive nest boxes and a ton of roosts adding a lot of vertical space for them to hang out on (which they use all the time) so it’s even less crowded than the floor space alone suggests.

The coop is 4x8 not including the nest boxes or height.

Not like I’m stuffing 50 chickens in there or something.

I also am putting the new ones in their own coop instead of in the current one like my dad says I should because I know it can’t hold anymore.

But they also willingly hang out in it lately despite having a big run to hang out in.

They’re inside right now and it’s nice out. Cold but nice. So they frequently choose to confine themselves. And the run is being expanded soon too so it’s going to be even bigger.

I’ve also begun letting them free range again lately so they’re barely in there.

The little ones are in the laundry room, yes, but they’re moving out this weekend, and the big ones are all happy and healthy and are showing no signs of overcrowding whatsoever. No fighting or bullying or anything like that.

It's not a bad thing to want a certain certain animal but there's a difference between want and need...

with a want you can just push it aside and say yeah I want those, but I don't need them...

It was like me with a quail because I really wanted them, but I don't need them right now. I don't need the added stress of learning a new animal and having to make cages for them. That's why I've just stuck to chickens.

You need to work on when you want something you need to think about it for about a week. That will give you enough time to get your thinking in order. I usually don't buy any type of animal unless I've thought about it for over a week... That way I can do the pros and cons of getting it and all that goes with it... Like cost of the animal, the cost of the vet, the cost of all the supplies it needs...

It’s actually kinda scaring me in a way cause I never used to do this with animals.

Maybe get some therapy. Maybe something mentally is going on kind of like a mid-life crisis, but you are not old enough for that so it's something a little bit deeper

A job will earn you money and keep you busy.
With money you can move out and be able to afford hobbies and critters.
