i don’t wanna go out in the cold again!!! i’m the one that’s been doing it all day! but the birdies need their treats, the bunnies need their treats, the waterers need to be checked again, the garbage needs to go out AGAIN, and the beer pitcher is empty AGAIN! (imagine that )

Isn’t the cold weather and darker nights just great? I can’t wait till they’re over. Being outside is awful at the moment especially when there is cleaning out and stuff to do!

When summer comes my quails will most likely be spending day times out in one of our aviaries.

The majority of our aviaries have ponds in or deep water troughs though so I’ll have to see about which one to put them in. I have a feeling if they see the fish they’ll end up swimming...

They can’t go in with the Roul Roul because they’d fight and they can’t go in with the Kookaburra because they’ll be tasty snacks

Whenever I hatch, I get more pullets in winter but in summer I get more cockerels!

I know right!? It was my first ever hatch too and I was so excited and wanted to keep all the girls!! They thwarted that one

Funny thing was everyone was telling me from the beginning, except maybe a couple people, that I had all boys except one or two, and I didn’t want to believe them but it turned out to be true

It sucks cause there were like 2-3 that I wasn’t sure on and really kinda looked like pullets when they were younger so I had my hopes up that I might have up to 4 girls, or at least 2, but recently even the other one I thought for sure was a girl has proven to be a boy too. Or at least pretty positive now.

And oh wow that’s really interesting!!! These were almost winter, Thanksgiving weekend (end of November this year) but all boys lol

yes! in addition to the cold, we’re flooded too (typical for valentine’s day over past 3 years). when we drove out for errands today, the river has made it up to the houses already.
hopefully this is our last of winter blasts as it’s supposed to warm up and start raining again tomorrow and i saw a skunk dead on the highway (our only hibernating mammal). but will see as its routine to have snow in march and april here and last year it was cold on mother’s day

i just finished...yes the gates are frozen, but good thing i went out because bunnies had already emptied the fresh water bottle i gave them this morning!! i put the thawed one on and refilled the 2nd so hopefully they will not run out again before i venture out in the morning!
