āž” Quail Hatch Along🄚

Second hatch in a row, quail didn't begin hatching until day 19. Originally set 107 eggs, 97 fertile and as of last night I moved 20 to brooder and 5 new still hatching or still wet in hatching trays. For a temporary current hatch rate of 23% and 26% of fertile hatched. I'm expecting a whole lot more to be hatched when I get home from work in a couple of hours.
What temperature are they at? It sounds like the temperature is a bit low. Don't trust the incubator thermometer.

I have a backup temp and humidity meters that confirm temps 99.5-100°F. I had a mishap on day 14+15. Humidifier broke and shorted out the heater. Had to get replacements installed to function properly. Temp dropped to low 70's for little over an hour on Wed. I let the temp and humidity stabilize again before I moved to lockdown. They appear to be happy and healthy, bouncing, baby birdies. Last hatch, out of 60 hatched, only 1 late hate hatch died.

moved a large amount of babies to the brooder. Numbers so far are 107 eggs started, 97 fertile(or maybe fertile), 69 hatched. Got 2 more that are almost completely unzipped. If this is the last of the hatches, it's not bad numbers for the issue I had. Anything more is bonus.

Do you know where your hot and cool spots are?

I have the air circulated throughout the incubator. The controller sensor is about 6 inches below my accu-rite thermometer/hygrometer. They are usually within 1/4 degree of each other and humidity doesn't vary by more than a few %. I believe it's very consistent. I just got a second turner and just have to get some quail rails for it and I'll be putting 120 eggs/week in it. Very exciting, I think.

I'm going into subtraction mode right now. I have 49 chicks, and about that many 5-7 week olds. Minus 12 today. This weekend I hope I'll have time to try to vent sex all of them so I can put an ad out on craigslist to sell some more. Of course, everyone wants hens. I think I've already sold most of my girls, but I'm pretty sure I have at least five left.

How's this for weird? My birds have been very quiet. I haven't heard a single crow yet. I'd have expected to be hearing a lot of it by now. No eggs yet either, but that's not a surprise when there are a lot of boys.

I took my ad off of craigslist almost 3 weeks ago and I still get messages almost daily asking if I've got quail available. I can't keep up with my demand. I'm adding another turner to my incubator to put 120 eggs in weekly, just to try and keep up.
