➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I wonder if it would help to feed mash/fermented? I find my big birds (compared to quail, I mean) don't waste the food as long as it's been at least soaked. The fermented (if I remember to wet it down soon enough) smells like bread rising. They go nuts over that. When I feed the same stuff dry, it ends up all over the ground and they stand in the feeder and scratch and pick their favorite parts.
Most gamebirds waste far more than other birds...especially the chicks of gamebirds.

I tried this once with my first quail.
The dummies like to make a bigger mess with it.

@Kiki doesn’t do treats. :lau although she may now. 😂🤣

Do you feed the dried mealworms or real live wiggly mealworms??? Idk if quail and game birds are the same but I tried to feed my chickens the dried kind once and they turned their noses up at them but they love the live kind. It’s like they know they’re fake* haha

*Yes I know they’re not really “fake”, just dried/dead, but still. Basically an empty shell it seems.
i use the dried mealworms for the buttons and i mix mealworms with my scratch as daily treats for the birds in the main aviary. they all love their treat time. I also give the dried mealworms to koi and goldfish. throwing a small handful through the netting draws the crowd away from the gate as we enter as well! DH puts a bit into the finch/button area but the buttons still come to the wire wanting their mealworms through the wire like they had when they were inside!

I just put my button eggs into lockdown. Coturnix batch goes into lockdown on Saturday.

That’s awesome!! I never thought of mixing it with scratch haha might try that! And maybe they would like them now that I have more birds. I think they were pretty young when I tried it last. I never would have thought of giving them to the fish either haha good idea!! I’m moving mine outside soon so maybe I’ll try that.
