➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Just wanna double check but one of my quail chicks that hatched a few hours ago has been walking around the incubator with his umbilical cord (I think it’s his umbilical cord) and dragging his whole egg behind him. Im just double checking that that’s normal and I should leave it alone until it drys and falls off, but my others didn’t have this happen to them. First timer with quails so I have some questions here and there and I’m just trying my best

It's normal. It will break on its own, but some people (@Kiki ) would break it for the chick.

So have I, but it usually breaks before I get into the incubator. I try to open it as little as possible during hatch. Once every few hours to move chicks to the brooder.

Do you have a beehive? If not you should build one and get bees, this is my opinion on what you should build take it or leave it. Also not trying to be rude or anything

I don’t but that’s a good idea! Although I’m a bit scared of bees. and that’s not rude at all and not sure how someone would take it that way haha

One time one of my chicken chicks had the cord stuck to it and I went to get scissors to cut it off cause @Kiki and @BantyChooks told me to and then by the time I got back just a few minutes later it fell off on its own. that was also a chick I was going to help out cause they said the hole he made was too big and/or he was taking too long or something but then he came out on his own by the time I went back in

Do you know what kind of Cots they might have?? It says they have Bobwhites and Cots but doesn’t say what kind of Cots. Only eggs though, no chicks.

Doesn’t really matter or anything, was mostly just wondering.

I think Bobwhites are illegal here but might be good to get some Cots from them but there’s probably other, better, sources aha

There an nothing to be scared of when it comes to honey bees, unless your allergic. I love my girls (all workers are girls). Just wear protective equipment. Also do research and buy a smoker. If you want to go there and get bees. You don’t need much land to have a beehive and I would recommend having them face a fence or a tall object and be 6-4 feet away. then the bees coming from the hive will fly over it and it bug anyone. Also put the bees in a secluded location but easily accessible location because about a 10-20 ft radius from the hiving there will be fast flying bees that don’t like to run into a large moving thing. Of course then there is the main incentive. HONEY!! I have 1 hive o will harvest from this year and another that is young an de I won’t havest any off it. I would totally recommend beekeeping. (I don’t even have a proper bee jacket but i love it). A book I would recommend if you are interested is beekeeping for dummies. This is a really helpful book for all parts of beekeeping. Hope you do well if you decide to try it
