Quail getting into position to break out of the egg
Had some excitement tonight. Came home to an open quail coop. I did a crappy job of making doors this time and it came open some how. Had 3 eggs in the cage, so it came open late this evening. 5 of the 6 hens are back in the cage. Got one missing which is amazing that I got 5 back. I am thankful.

4 were pretty close to the cage. One was on the other side of the yard with a small egg on the ground. Amazing. I walked the yard twice and hunting birds will always be exciting.

Moral of the story. Close your coops. Make good doors. Cheers!
One of my doors on the nice coop...the picture frames...is getting close to falling apart.
Now that most of the babies have hatched I can go ahead and off the ones in this cage.
Then I'll fix the door and move the babies in to it.

2 eggs left.

3 yellers in the bator with the 2 eggs.
The rest are chilling with the pink sock.

Sixth quail found and returned to coop after spending the night in the frosty grass. She didn't flush last night, but I walked right near where she flushed from today.

These girls are bigger than most of their brothers. Nice and plump. Should make good babies.

Now if you can just get the chosen guy to do his job.

HE doesn't like the dim light. Maybe a spot light??? Some people just have to put on a show, doncha know?
It is a physical reality that the males need the light to get them producing sperm just like the hens need the light to induce egg production.
