➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Update on QB#19.
15 set 4 January
11 infertile (Pulled the 6 maybes and 1 that looked good last night)
4 going to lockdown tonight.
Going out of town this weekend, so DD#1 gets to watch the popcorn happen.

Is 4 popcorn? Kinda like going to a one firework firework display. Not quite enough to whet the appetite.

8 chicken eggs will be hatching right after the quail. Sounds like a co-brooder will happen for the first week.

Please note this is a dry hatch. No water was added to the incubator during this normally dry time of year. Hygrometer has been reading 15-25% moisture. We've had a couple of rain showers and the yard is muddy. Nothing like the 50% moisture during the summer. I plan to add a jar of water for humidity. The 2" diameter one may be too much. I need a narrower jar to limit the surface area. Will start with this one. Don't think I'll drown the chickens this close to hatch, but there is a chance. The air cells were large, and saw clear fluid, vessels and lumps in the chicken eggs. The quail eggs had more darkness (lumps) than clear space.

Incubator in the back room that is usually cooler than the rest of the house with no issues. Holding steady between 98.9 and 101.1°F. The real thermometer shows 99°F constantly.

There's so many fun ways to do sex links with Roux, haha. I've been thinking about making an Autumn Amber sexlink pen. Females hatching Autumn Amber, males hatching Italian.
So I combined the bigger chicks with the larger of the ones that are 5 days younger. The big ones have been under a red bulb so I didn’t notice, but it looks like I have 1 half celadon autumn amber:

Is there a problem here? I don't see it.

Remind anyone of tribbles?

First quail egg was pipped this morning. Day 16 and full steam ahead.
i don’t see the problem with it 🤣🤣🤣 i see it as groceries in reserve......but I never know when the city is going to come back and try to classify my quail, parakeets, and finches as livestock and make me remove all but 6 birds from my aviary......

Just one more reason to not live in town.
