➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I have two quail from my hatch who haven’t moved outside because they’re roughly half the size of the other birds. They’ve been separated from them for over a week now; they’re eating and drinking and seem healthy. One of them was the one we thought was sick because he was thin and doing poorly but ever since he’s been in the small guys pen he’s perked up.

Are they never gonna catch up in size? Never had this issue with chickens, seems really odd!
probably not. Once a runt, usually, always a runt.

Quail will have a variety and will not breed true. We just select for the large ones, but the small ones come out of the gene pool too. Like white tigers and the like.

I set 76 eggs today. My turner already cracked one of them. You can see how some of the eggs got pushed out of the turner. I really don't like this incubator.

I've also separated out all of the roos from my Easter hatch. I had 14 celadons. 9 of them are boys. 4 are hens, and one is a recovering sick bird that I'm not sure on gender yet.
These are the girls. I brought them inside temporarily since I don't want to combine the two batches of boys that I have. I'm going to be processing over 20 boys this weekend. Then these girls can go back outside.

The four in the blue container Bee...are those 4 HG ballers?

I set 99 eggs in the brinsea Sunday. It’s a mixed lot. Lots of celadons that Tiger Millionaire was one of the fathers, I even took some out of the fridge that came from his pen. I’m really hoping for a new Tiger. There are 2 celadon, carrier only, hens in the pen with Tiger, so I’m setting their eggs too. I set a few double yolkers and I think a fairy. So all in all I expect about 55-60 chicks since last time I set fridge eggs only 10% hatched.

I went out and pulled another crowing male from the grow out and I caught Fluffy to get some photos for @Kiki because I told her I would post pics a week ago. As I took pics, I noticed that she has green eyes:

She looked very much as a chick, like that one Kiki had, and she’s grown up still looking fluffy.
