➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Thanks! I was thinking it was a bit slippy so I was keeping an eye on it. I'll put some more shelf liner in the brooder.

I don't have a coffee grinder but I did run it through the food processor which I read somewhere. It did leave bigger chunks but most of it is small and powdery, and they were eating the smaller bits.

I just ran it through a sieve and I got a very fine powder, is that too fine? If I put some of the larger pieces in will they just eat around the bigger chunks or will they choke?
They’ll eat around what is too big. You’d be surprised how fast they’re eating normal sized chick crumble, and they will pick at those big pieces as they grow into them.

Alright final count is 6 hatched.

Soooo I'm probably going to order more eggs. At least that means I can get some fun colors this time. :)
The feed doesn't need to be sand.
If you put a quarter cup or a half cup into a ziplock bag and take a hammer to it a few times... It usually does the trick.

Please get a few more thermometers and run your bator a few days... To watch the temperature indifferent spots at a glance... Before you order eggs.

Oh yeah for sure. If there is a lot of temp variability I may just try a different incubator. I'm not sure how I would set the eggs to avoid those spots since they all spin around.

I can see veins! The picture isn't great, but you can still see some development.
