I have quail hatching tomorrow and again next week.

I just bought this and the ONLY reason I did is because it was 1 whole dollar.

I see an experiment brewing.

I'm thinking about splitting each bath of chicks up in to 3 brooders.

1 with heat plate
1 regular light bulb
1 with no heat source

I held a thermometer up against the heat plate part for a minute.

The thermometer has been sitting on top of the napkin underneath the heat plate for at least 5 minutes now:

What's your ambient temp? This hatch I left the heat lamp on for only 3 days because the house stays 80-82. Wonder if I need it at all.

I would not add heat if my house stayed at 80 or 82°.


I don't think I'm going to use the heat plate correctly either because I don't want to burn the dummies.

It kept climbing up into about 114° before it stopped to climbing.



I just raised it higher which makes it so quail chicks would not be able to touch the heat plate.
I have the thermometer sitting on the napkin underneath the raised heat plate to see how warm it gets underneath.

I'll report back in about 20 minutes.

@Kiki At 114 degrees, It might make a good dehydrator for making yogurt.
