2 dead in shell with deformed heads ... 2 pipped but still alive ... the 5th was a dud. Am I right in thinking deformed heads are a genetic issue? They looked like they had no skull tops sorry no pics I was too distraught n now im worried for these remaining 2 xx

I don't think it's so much a genetics issue but rather a nutritional issue with the parent stock. They are missing some amino acid in their feed?....most likely it's too little Lysine and methionine + cystine. ??? Just my educated opinion.

There are quite a few pips now. I'm going to have to go out later just to keep my nose from being glued to the incubator. Hatching never gets old.

I heard chirping from the incubator and thought I had an early chick. There are no chicks, just eggs. I've never heard a chick chirp like that before it's even out of the egg.

It's called the "phantom chick chirp"! You just think your hearing a chick chirp.....I've got the hearing of an 80 yr. old man....I've been that way since my teens! I can't hear a chick chirp, even if I wanted too! Anyway, I hear a chick chirping, even when I have no eggs set! It's worse when I do have eggs set!
