➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I have 2 fake eggs, but 4 nest boxes. Should I have an egg in each box? It's never been an issue until now. Maybe I am trying to collect the eggs too soon or too often and not helping the situation any. It's just so exciting for me to be getting eggs now that I just want to check and grab them. So maybe I will back off and wait to try and collect until late afternoon/early evening to ensure that all the girls have laid. Give them a treat to occupy them and gather the eggs. Something like that. Think maybe that will help?
If you only have two fake eggs, put them in the nest boxes that are used most often. Some hens lay in the morning, and some later in the day. Since yours just started laying I would recommend checking the nest boxes first thing in the morning, then early afternoon, then at night when you lock them up or whatever your nighttime ritual is.

If you do have a potential egg eaters, checking more often will allow you to remove temptation and actually get eggs. But if you have hens who keep getting disrupted because you are checking too often that could impact their laying. I think it's kind of a play it by ear situation.

Ok. Thank you. That's kind of what I was doing already. Checking for eggs like late morn, afternoon, and later on early evening. I guess I thought that maybe I was checking too often and possibly making things worse. The times that I'm checking may be just a little off. A little tweak and things may smooth out.

it takes 26hrs from lay to lay so all things equal a hen will lay 2hrs later per day till late evening then you won't get one that day

5 so far. One assist. Lots of blondies!
