Yep, no shoes all summer. Had to learn to wear them again in the fall for school.
My brother and I would run around the neighborhood and through the backwoods areas with our friends barefoot. The one day we had shoes on he stepped on a long rusty nail.

We then learned that shoes are vital.

There's a few new inventions you're bound to love. They are called socks. You can even have slippers on over top if you're really into decadence.;)
I hate wearing slippers, but I do have a fine collection of fuzzy socks. My feet will ache if I walk on tiles all day regardless.
People walk around barefoot? That's nuts
The soles of my feet are constantly burned in summer. I’d like to think that someday I’ll have crisped them so much that I’ll have built up a resistance to the scorching hot asphalt of a Texas driveway.. but not today.

Nails go right through shoe soles. I did the nail in the foot numerous times but the worst was when I landed on the sun dial and ran it the whole way through my foot. I was always having to get a tetanus shot.

Ouch! I can’t even imagine the pain that would cause.

Yeah it went all the way through his shoe and into his foot, but we learned that had he not worn the shoes it would have lodged itself in his foot. He basically had stomped on it, and silly me yanked it out.

This gave me a shudder. All the way through? Ouch.

Burned foot soles do sound terrible. We used to go on barefoot night walks during the summers at the farm. The asphalt was pleasant and warm, but shoes (probably the jelly kind) were worn during the day. Nothing like hot, bubbling tar to remind you of that.

This is also true of Floridan beach sand. The dry sand in-between the beach towels and the wet sand was like lava.
