➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Coyote was back just a few minutes ago, this time it was in the front yard where the chickens had been earlier today. The neighbor’s dogs went after with no mercy, we couldn’t get a shot off without risking the dogs. The one time I’m glad those crazy things were around.

How scary! Am glad the dogs chased it away but... is kind of a shame that it couldn’t have been taken care of in a more permanent manner. I’d be worried it will come back. I know y’all will have your eyes out for it.

Wow! Awesome. That is very neat. How long before the study is published?
it may be a year or longer. There is the original study and then a second one too.
Here is a quote about the study itself...
"The study is focused on the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) of the DNA which represents immune function. We've been looking at differences between heritage breeds and commercial birds. Initial results are coming up with completely unknown gene variants in the heritage birds that are completely nonexistent in commercial stocks. We kind of figured that but this helps build the case that these birds are important to keep around! The study has been in the works for a few years. We've been working collaboratively with a poultry geneticist, Janet Fulton, (to gather data from commercial stocks) along with Alison and Charlene from TLC. They are co-authoring an initial paper which is in the works. We hope that this kind of documentation will encourage USDA to think differently about the importance of non-commercial stock. The second study (using the DNA data from the MHC study) is a genetic distancing study of breeds to see how they relate to each other. We are doing this with NC State University. The initial report should be out this year. As we add more breeds to the study, we can do follow up reports. Mind you, all of this takes time and it can be excruciatingly long before we see results since we cannot share until the entire initial studies are done and published. The follow up studies could take a year or two since it takes time to gather samples from multiple breeds. Right now, I reach out because the next DNA sample run will be at the end of February."

Nails go right through shoe soles. I did the nail in the foot numerous times but the worst was when I landed on the sun dial and ran it the whole way through my foot. I was always having to get a tetanus shot.
Used to wear tennis shoes in the garden until I stepped on the four prong garden rake and pierced thru the shoe into my foot. Had to pull the rake out and started to drive myself to the hospital. Daughter got home from school just in time. They pulled little pieces of the rubber sole out of the punctures and gave me a tetanus shot.
Daughter thought I was tough....until this week...

Son in law, her hubby, had double knee replacement on Monday the 11th. Went home Friday with home health care. One tough cookie to do both knees at the same time. He has been bone on bone for 20 years. He said he needed to get the leg length to match so they were measured and matched robotically...amazing what modern medicine can do now!

I’m worried that the dogs may get whatever that thing is carrying, as well as the horses being out in the pasture. It’s thick fog tonight which is bad for them, but keeping them locked in a stall wouldn’t do anything either since none of our stalls are within an enclosed barn. The minis don’t stand a chance against a starving coyote.
