➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

With 7°F and 3/4" of snow this morning. it is not time to start thinking about starting seeds for the garden. I do have Gold Nugget tomato plants that are two feet tall. in profuse bloom and starting to set tomatoes. I have a King Arthur pepper plant that has buds and is probably just a week away from blooming. There is also one cabbage seedling and one head lettuce seedling that are up. I had planted a couple of cauliflower seeds but they have not sprouted yet.

Guess what!?! Hubby gets up and lets all the chickens and ducks out in the mornings. I get to sleep in for an extra hr or so. Well, I wake up and I ask if he remembered to close off the little coop to try and prevent Priscilla from laying up there? No. Ok np, I'll do that here when I wake up a bit more. Did we get 1 duck egg or 2 this morn? We got 2. Ok, cool. I'm trying to figure out if there is a pattern to Luna's laying. So far, it seems like, lay Day 1, skip Day 2, lay Day 3, skip Day 4 and 5. I don't know if this will continue but it seems like this is what is happening so far. Well, I go out to check to see if Priscilla laid yet and to clean the coops etc. She hadn't. :yesss: So I close it off. I check in the big coop. Nope, but a couple of the other girls have so I collect those eggs. We have this Dog Igloo thing out there in their area, just another place for them to go to get out of the elements. I check in there. Nope (whew!) but something catches my eye on the ground. A little egg. But its WHITE. What the.... hey! Wait a min.... that's a duck egg. That's a Little Luna egg. She's the only one that flies over to the chicken area. Then who... OMGosh! That was a Xena egg this morn! :celebrate My baby girl finally laid her first egg. :ya All of my baby girls have finally grown up. :wee

Question on cauliflower. I haven't tried early spring plantings, only late summer. They do well in late summer, but I'd like to try early spring. When do you plop yours in the ground? What soil temp?

I stick the cauliflower in the garden the same time as cabbage. Here that is the first of May but they can survive the cool temps and light frosts just like cabbage. They could probably go out in April since the volunteer lettuce is often up and thriving in March and April. They will grow slowly until the soil warms up but they certainly can get an early start by planting them earlier.

Okie dokie, thanks! I'm going to give them a try this year. I still have to order my cabbage seeds so maybe I'll add a colored variety of cauliflower to my early spring seed order.
Sounds like I need to get my light set up and get moving.

Yes, flowers
Yes, vegetables
Ground is still frozen
Seeds are in the mail
Who me garden!
Plants coming up.
Ducks noodled out the plants
Dogs ate the cabbage and spinach

Yes, I have seeds in pots and hoping for seedling soon. Peas are ready to go in after this cold spell.
I ordered 10 varieties of tomatoes, 5 kinds of peppers, 4 types of squash. I had carrots, onions, brassicas already.
I also have tree seedlings in the refrigerator already sprouted and ready to set in pots.
