➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Burned foot soles do sound terrible. We used to go on barefoot night walks during the summers at the farm. The asphalt was pleasant and warm, but shoes (probably the jelly kind) were worn during the day. Nothing like hot, bubbling tar to remind you of that.
Jellies!
I loved them.

This is also true of Floridan beach sand. The dry sand in-between the beach towels and the wet sand was like lava.
When I was a kid we had a boat on the Mississippi River. I was walking on the beach and someone had buried hot coals instead of pouring water on them. I had an immediate 2x2” blister in the shape off a charcoal briquette on the bottom of my foot. Not fun!

Priscilla keeps laying in a corner of the little coop instead of going in the nest boxes. I guess she feels more, idk, comfortable or something? Since it isn't supposed to rain today I thought that I would close off access to the upper part of the coop where she keeps going. In the hopes that she would make her way over to the other coop. When I went out there she was already up there. :barnie So I peek in and ask her, "have you laid yet?" She kind of stands up and I don't see an egg so I'm like, :yesss: So I pick her up and take her to the big coop and the nest boxes. I try to get her to go in. She just doesn't want to. I try to gently coax her in one. Before she gets in, "plop". There's the egg. Well.... I missed it by thaaaaaaaaaaat much. So I put her egg in the box, get her to go in. She sees it and comes directly out. I have no clue if this will work or not but I think I am going to try again tomorrow. Just a little earlier next time. I didn't have the problem with Amber. She started using the next boxes right away. On the up side, at least she isn't laying just anywhere in the yard right?

I’m having the opposite problem. We have our young layers laying in the grow out coop where we want them to lay, but one of the Australorps is beating up on them while they are laying and laying in there. :he I locked her in a nest box in the big coop since just locking her in the coop wouldn’t make her lay in the boxes.

I wonder if she is laying in the small coop because of the Black Australorps. She is so docile and passive that the bigger girls have a tendency to spook her easily. Which I find interesting because I saw Bowie try to peck at her head and dominate her to mount her and she wasn't having it. She fluffed up and attacked him. They were both jumping at each other and everything. Bowie backed down lol.

That’s hilarious! I wish our hens would fight with Negan. He just does as he wants.

I need recommendations. What is a good incubator? I know that I want an automatic egg turner. I don't want to spend a ridiculous amount but am willing to spend a decent amount. Preferably something to be able to hatch at least 20 or more. Not sure that we'd ever hatch that much at a time but I'd rather have something a little bigger than I need than smaller. I'm up on Amazon trying to look at some and am reading reviews and a lot of them have not so great reviews. It's just so difficult to know what was "user error" or those "sometimes stuff just happens type error" but isn't the norm that usually happens. And is it worth having a digital thing that keeps up with humidity and temp and all that?So I'd like some opinions. :caf
Thx all!
I've got my eye set on an IncuView from incubator warehouse. If it weren't for the dollar difference and the international shipping costs I'd have one already.

I moved a town over for college. The rest of my family still lives at the other property and are taking care of them for the time being.

We’re thinking of taking him back in 2-3 weeks. They enjoy each other’s company but it is a little hard to train Theia with him around. She has a hard time focusing and he’s a very handsome, distracting old fella.
Theia keeping Triumph young:

LOL. I haven’t proposed your name to hubby yet. I imagine it’ll go something like “You remember kiki? No.. the chicken one.. yea... she said her middle name is Habiba... *shrug*”
:love
She's so gentle with him. It seems like she's letting him be the alpha too.

that's what I have... takes awhile to get used to the digital controls but I like them
