➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Anyone got a link to a thread for chicks with toes that didn't separate during incubation? I'm assuming causes would be issues with parent stock or incubator temp? I looked on the Sally Sunshine thread but didn't see it. I bought 2 silkies from TSC, one has it really bad almost walking on fists the other isn't as bad. Wondering if I can even attempt surgery or just hope it can get around without too much issue.

Really? I had no idea about that. They are this kind. I was eating the sea salted ones, the one that’s open ha, but the nutrition facts look basically the same though??

I believe that both of those are roasted. The type of fat is the issue. Once cooked they convert to a trans fat. Either way it's recommended to only it a small handful a day. I don't get them often because I'll get carried away and eat at least 10 handfuls in one sitting lol

We had a late night tonight here. It's my bro-in-laws bday and we all went out for a bday dinner with him and other family. A nice time was had by all. Except it throws our schedule off for taking care of our animals. Oops! Everyone is safe and sound by it still worries me. We did have a little moment of "oh crap!" tho. We checked one of the outside cameras via our phone on the big coop for Bowie to be snuggled into the nest box like he has been doing. He wasn't there. I was like, uh oh. Where is he? Oh I know, I bet he just decided to bed down in the corner where we can't see. I've seen a divot in the shavings where a chicken has done that. I bet that's where he is. We get home and I rush to the coop and lock them down and open the door to check on everybody. He's not in the corner. Hubby is with me and he goes uh.. he's not there. So he shines his flashlight to the opposite side of the coop where the roosting bars are and goes, "well I'll be damned". There was Bowie. Up on one of the roosting bars with the others. I always read that Silkies don't like to roost and prefer to stay down low. I guess he decided differently. Silly boy!

ETA: I didn't know he could jump that high. :gig
My silkie started roosting with the big chickens a couple of months ago. A year and a half of staying down and then all of a sudden up she goes. Weird .

Ah okay. That makes sense. Though can they have trans fat even if it doesn’t say any on it?? And yeah, same!! That’s what I’ve been doing and then I put them down so I need to not get carried away LOL I think I read somewhere you’re only supposed to have a handful or two a day anyway or maybe only a few times a week cause they’re supposed to be healthy but more than that they’re not. So I need to not munch them. Lol

It is such a beautiful today. My son is the best man at his friends wedding and it’s an outdoor one. It couldn’t be a more beautiful day but man I’m sweating bullets already. I’m thankful there’s a breeze. Here’s a pic of my son and I.

I'm not sure the trans fat thing is proved fact so much as a question raised by one study. There are varying effects on nuts from heat that depend a great deal on roasting temperature and time as well as what kind of nut it is. In general, you should keep nut portions small because they're calorie and fat dense. I read somewhere that a cup of Brazil nuts is over 900 calories and 90-some grams of fat So, yeah, just a few.
