Have you ever donated blood? Or had any bloodwork done?

My heart hurts reading this.

Yeah, I usually get bloodwork at every physical. They’ve never said anything about the iron or anything else and that usually doesn’t really bleed so it must be okay?

And yeah, mine too. I have got to stop reading it and watching all the video clips because I am just crying and making myself more sad doing so :hit

Awful. Those dogs deserve nothing short of a bullet.

Yeah, I am sure they will all be put down, or at least the ones that were outside, as they should be. Clearly faulty wiring or something. But that said, these breeds are also extremely dominant, powerful, protective breeds that need a strong handler so a 14 year old should not have been looking after that many of them alone. So surely it is also a little bit of the owner’s fault. I think some of them were unlicensed and/or have gotten loose before too so maybe not the best owner anyway. But the weird thing is the kid had been taking care of them for over a year so he shouldn’t have been a stranger to them. So definitely some faulty wiring or something and they deserve to be put down. But I think some of the dogs also didn’t belong to the owner so maybe he had some new boarders or rescues or something that didn’t recognize him or that he’s never seen before? That’s what’s scary about packs of dogs too; one can start attacking and then it can set the others off and cause even supposedly good dogs to join in when they might not otherwise or if they were alone. Not that I’m saying any of these dogs were good dogs or trying to excuse them or anything. Just trying to figure out what happened. Not that it does any good. All of those dogs should be put down. They are very clearly extremely dangerous dogs. But pack mentality is also extremely different than a single dog. It was a dangerous situation to begin with. I wonder if the owner will be or can be charged with anything. I mean, obviously it was an accident, but it seems like the whole situation was an accident waiting to happen. It is just terrible though.

An awful thing to happen. Agreed, though... packs are nasty things to deal with. A reminder that dogs, while trainable and amazing critters, can also revert back to their wild natures rather quickly when placed in a pack situation. Some breeds/types more so than others. I'm not a fan of any of the hardcore aggressive working breeds. They're ticking time bombs, IMO.

Yeah, so sad. Feel so bad for everyone that knew him. Terrible losing someone you live, especially in such a horrific, gruesome, and unexpected manner. So terrible. :hit

But yeah, packs scare me. And that’s coming from someone who loves dogs and wants to train them. Now I’m kinda questioning that ha I don’t think I would ever own more than 2 or 3 though. Even 3 is pushing it. But there is a reason why the sweet friendly neighborhood Lab turns into a chicken or sheep killer when he gets loose with maybe a few other dogs but then is a sweet little baby at home that would never hurt a fly.

But yeah, I used to think they were cool dogs or even want one because I saw them in movies and in YouTube videos doing tons of tricks and being super athletic and stuff and wanted that. And they are definitely super cool dogs and super smart and trainable, workaholics even, but they are way too much dog for me or for anyone really and definitely dangerous. A ticking time bomb like you said. And I’m not usually one to just hate or blame breeds, often it’s the owner, but these dogs are just SO intense and so powerful and dominant it’s just not a good combination. I think they should also be much more regulated than they are. They are a highly specialized weapon and imo should be kept with the military and police and other expert handlers and not owned or bred by any average Joe who can get their hands on one. People always think pits are so dangerous but I actually think they’re a lot less dangerous than these dogs.

Probably a little too much dog for most folks. They do seem to really excel in the military/police force, though.
Pits still make up for a majority of fatal dog attacks every year, but there are also a lot more of them than there are Belgian Malinois running around.

Yeah, they definitely need a real job and real structure, leadership, and work or else they go crazy. They are go go go 24/7 workaholics ha great for police and military, not great for having 11 of them running around on a small town farm. No way all of them were being worked near enough. And especially being crated all day or who knows how long. Bet those dogs went a little insane from that too. They should definitely only be in real working jobs. They’re not designed to be house pets.

And yeah, that is true, they definitely do attack a lot but I also think the majority of those dogs are bully mixes and/or other breeds rather than strictly American Pit Bull Terrier (the only true “pit bull”) so those numbers are probably skewed and higher than they might otherwise be. Like saying “retrievers” make up most attacks except retriever alone isn’t technically a breed and the dog might not even be one, just kinda sorta looks like one. People label everything a pit. So there’s a lot of variety there. And most I would be willing to bet are horribly bred mutts with terrible temperaments and/or training and owners. But that said, I know of all the supposedly sweet and loving pits that are fine for years then one day just snap. So not all are poorly raised. I think it’s just genetics or something. Idk. A lot of bad dogs running around and most aren’t fixed so they’re passing those bad genes on.

Some pits and bully mixes are super sweet and goofy dogs whereas Malinois are usually super serious and all work and they honestly intimidate me way more even though I think they are cool dogs. But I don’t think I would ever own either just because I am in no way prepared or qualified for a Malinois and getting a pit or bully mix is a huge gamble as to what you end up with.

Oh and also a lot of pits and bullies and I think those Malinois type dogs are dog aggressive even if they are sweethearts with people so that’s another reason I don’t want one. I hate dealing with dog aggression. Terrifies me. Rather just have a dog that likes other dogs lol

Although I actually kind of wonder too if maybe some of the dogs got into a fight and the kid tried to break it up and it went bad??
