➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Thanks for the help all. I’m going to have to save up for a proper shovel and rake, at the very least.
I tied one up with a rope and realized that it was all one huge connected plant with several mature offshoots.

Regardless, I’m done for today. My arms look like they’ve been through a woodchipper. Stupid plant.

I texted her but she didn’t reply. If she has some kind of limb cutter then I can at least try and cut them off and shovel the roots up later.
Can you post it on CL as free, must remove with own tools? Sometimes people want a mature plant and would be willing to do the labor themselves.

You have Yuccas. You can kill them by drowning them. They cannot tolerate lots of water. They have taproots that go very deep. I dug out one because it was in the way of where my waterline was going. Its roots were 8' deep and still going. Fortunately I got enough of the root that it did not come back.
EIGHT FEET!?
y’all. I couldn’t dig a hole for a rose bush with my damn hand trowel. You’re killing me.

What if I tie it to the truck as is and try pulling it out? I can’t imagine the mess that would make if it actually came up.

It will still leave enough root to come back unless you just keep the hole full of water which will kill it.

People WANT these monsters?
The problem is that I’m home alone most of the time and I’m wary of craigslist strangers showing up at my house.

Ugh... what if I chop the whole thing off to the base, dig up as much as my noodle arms can take, and drench the area in roundup all summer?

My brother just invited me over for dinner a little bit ago. I think I am going to go. I am still off and driving around, pretty far from home, and still feel a little sick, mostly just that my eyes and mouth are really dry, and kinda tired/not really feeling it, so I wasn’t going to, but then I realized it might be good. Especially since they wanted me to hang out yesterday and I kind of accidentally blew them off  so I think I will go. I figure, I should try to force myself to be a little social. Might help. And plus I don’t want to go home yet anyway and can’t keep driving around or sitting in parking lots and wasting gas. And just getting sore. :lau so I think I will start heading home. And by then I should get there just in time haha plus I could use the distraction lol

There is no need to use Roundup. Just keep it really wet and it will die.

Maybe ask a landscaping company? I'm pretty sure people plant them on purpose. Larger plants can be pricey, just walk through a nursery. Otherwise I second drowning the roots to prevent it from coming back. Not sure I would use chemicals, but that's just my preference. I dunno if it makes fumes, but maybe burning it? Light some charcoal and drop onto the stump to burn out the stump?

They sell the roots in the grocery store. Yucca is said to have many medicinal benefits. I watched a show on the Food Channel where Emeril Lagasse made chips from the root.

The roots can also be used for making soap.
