➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I'm using an egg turner for my duck eggs. Duck eggs are just a little taller than a chicken egg. I place the eggs in areas away from the fan motor and where they are not directly under the heating element.
With just a few eggs, I would simple place them in a half egg carton and put a 1 X .5 inch X 6 inch thick piece of wood under one end of the carton. Move it twice a day to the other end.
If you put the egg turner in your incubator, watch the temperature. The little motor on the turner can affect the temperature by 1 or 2 degrees. You would need to make an adjustment for that.
I still haven't opened the turner box.
I figure these balut eggs are close to the end of incubation and it won't kill me to turn them by hand.

I guess since this 3rd operation balut/experiment is over I can go ahead and open the turner and set it up and see what it does to the temperatures now, before I get next week's eggs.

I stopped after just one egg.
It's too gross today.
This one egg was for sure younger than the original eggs...I think.
I think so because the little duck is not as developed and as big as the original two eggs.
The embryo does have feathers. Couldn't see the beak or toes. Looks to be 12 - 14 days.

I didn't get good pics this time, sorry.
I just wanted a quick glimpse to see if we could tell if it was younger or older or about the same as the original two.

These eggs were not alive to begin with. I'm going to make a pass to visit the other Asian store to see if they sell balut today,

I will be visiting The Man again next Thursday.

This is disappointing, however, perhaps your first set were a total fluke and in general balut eggs are not really viable. It will be interesting to see what you find in future. It would be interesting to know if it is likely they are viable, or if you just got lucky that one time.

I may have gotten lucky the first time but I WILL get lucky again.
If I have to buy baluts every week for the next year...so be it...I'm doing it!

You may just go broke, but I get it. The thrill of the chase!

You have the heart of a scientist. :) I've really been enjoying this kooky thread!
