➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Thanks! That is the one that was throwing me off. Those orange feathers are there, not just lighting and she does have a little bit more orange on the face than the others. I plan on keeping a trio and releasing a pair (maybe she's the lucky lady). I will definitely keep an eye on her. Thanks again! Very much appreciated.
If you release them make sure your state allows it and/or have a permit to do so....also be prepared to never see them again, once released they will be gone.
I've done it through the years. Sometimes they hang around for a month or two, then they disappear, either they decide to leave or a predator gets them. Others, took off flying and never saw them again.

Well, I ended up with 4. Pretty terrible stats but I’ll keep trying.
There were about 16 infertile, 1 died sometime after zipping most of the way, a couple died before internal pip. The rest were somewhat developed at different stages and died for whatever reason.

What do you keep your humidity and temp at?

I am nothing of an expert hatcher person or even knowledgeable. I have had very crappy success at this and I can tell you I had no idea I wasn't supposed to check the eggs after day 17 so i messed with mine like crazy. (Not counting the first hatch with the two chicks I mentioned earlier from my neighbor) I had 1 chick hatch from 11 eggs so DONT do what I did and mess with them. If banty says leave them alone, leave them alone! I know next time I will be sure to do that.
You have to pay close attention when you touch the eggs. You need to keep them steady and not move them around while handling...if that even makes sense.
Keep the egg in the same position it was in before you touched it.

No just picking an egg up and twisting it all around the light.:barnie

Good morning all. Major storm whipped through last night. Strong thunderstorm that was so close to turning into a small tornado.
My property suffered extensive damage so I will be cleaning that up today. Anybody know if chickens will eat leaves? We have a ton of that available now :lau

Lindi is still alive and very perky. She ate some of her breakfast of mashed hardboiled egg w/ oregano leaves. I may try to find some way to get her to stand more and use her legs normally.

I forgot to mention that the day prior to going down she had a small limp in one leg.

Can you get her some chick feed?

Leaves are great for deep littler method...put them all in your run.

I don't have chick feed and am avoiding buying any until the chicks hatch to avoid spoilage.
I have layer feed, feather fixer, scratch and birdseed available. And ample eggs and oregano. Anything I can do with those? So far she seems to only have interest in cooked egg and the smaller grains of birdseed.
I do not think she is drinking and am extremely hesitant to assist with that because of the risk of aspiration.
