➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I think I got rid of the best potential mom I had. She (the Marans) was never supposed to be a mother hen. Just wanted her for her eggs which she hasn't laid in months bc she keeps going broody! She may get off the nest for a couple days and then goes back on. My Cochin bantam, silkies ,and possibly ameraucauna will do any hatching i attempt in the future.
My bantam cochin didn't lay eggs or go broody this year. The freeloader!

Wow! The entire year? That's crazy! I don't even count my bantam birds when I'm considering how many eggs I should be getting bc they're so wishy washy with their laying but a whole year? Geez! My bantams are really my girls' and I probably wouldn't even have them if it weren't for the kids except the one i got rid of. She was clockwork... laid for three weeks every day then went broody. Never missed except for a little while after being broody to get back on track. She was a frizzle Cochin bantam and a great little chicken. I miss that one.

How are the chicks?
The 2 itty bitties are still in tractor with foster mom. Way too cute. She has torn up all the grass scratching. Tore it up. I'm amazed.

I want them bigger. The meat birds need the second tractor. I didn't think this through enough. Hurumph! Hope to let them mingle this weekend. Hope for no rain.

The large headspot & dark legs mean girl for BR & Dominiques? The all black one is just wait & see.

I've never heard that about the head spot on barred rocks and dominiques. (Not to imply it isn't true this is just new to me. I know often you can tell once the barring starts to show). Also aren't you uncertain if your's are pure bred? Didn't they come from a mixed pen?

When I'm on the computer tomorrow, I'll see if I can find the reference. Spot size & leg color were considered for BR.

Real neat autosexing tells.

Thank you! I love reading up on things like this.
