This house had radiant heat in the ceiling when we moved in. What kind of an idiot puts heat in the ceiling??? It was never even slightly warm (tho the roof was probably nice & toasty) & our electric meter would spin even when it wasn't on. We finally had to shut it off from the breaker.

That is just weird. I've heard of putting heat in floors but never in a ceiling.

My father got this at a garage sale and gave it to me. My brother stopped by to see it but did not notice it because he was standing right in front of it with his back to it. It was even with his face so he got quite a surprise when he turned around to see it.

I don't have any experience with roosters as of yet so I can't really help on which to keep. That being said.... While both are handsome I really like the looks of Big. Now a question... Just because Big is the non dominant right now, his personality MIGHT change but it's not a guarantee is it? I mean, it would be good, if you were to keep him that is, to step up as a dominant now that the other is gone but it doesn't necessarily mean that he'll go from dr. jekyl to mr. hyde right? It CAN happen, but doesn't mean that it WILL? And can't you just reassert yourself as alpha and put him in his place? Now plz understand, I know I am WAAAAAY SUPER SIMPLIFYING. So basically I'm saying that I guess you'd have to ask your and decide if it would be worth your time and effort if that situation were to occur, right. That make sense? What other worst case scenarios am I not thinking about? Again, I don't have any experience with roosters as of yet so I'm curious.

Worst case scenario is that I wait too long and they get into a bad fight in which one or both is injured, perhaps severely. Best case scenario is that never happens, they become buddies and don't over-mate the hens and I keep them both.

I'm still in a wait and see mode. Watching them carefully, and hoping I can spot early trouble signs before there is a major problems. It's a really tough decision!

I wasn't saying the rooster would turn into a jerk, just that it's a possibility. He could be a total sweetheart now just because he knows he is #2. I just wanted to point out a possibility to consider in making the decision, if one of the main reasons to keep him is the personality and it changes then suddenly she may have a rooster she can't stand.

I forget how many hens you have... I run 2 or 3 roos with 20-30 hens... I use hen saddles on the favorite girls... there always seem to be some girls that get all the attention, even in a different coop with one roo and 12 hens.
Most of the time, with mine, there is a dominant roo and a subordinate roo.
I had a father and two 1/2 cx sons in the one yard. One of the sons no one liked.. the father would chase him away until dusk and the hens didn't like him.. the other son was well like by everyone. At 18 months, The unliked one started getting too rough with the hens and he went in the pressure cooker. Unfortunately the other son is getting too big to stay on the hens and I guess he will meet the same fate.
