➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I haven't had any chicken go broody ever. My mom had an "Australorp" that was always broody and laid chocolate brown eggs (hence the quotes, I swear she was part Marans).

You also missed where I admitted to committing this crime against language myself... :lau I can't plead ignorance, I just don't always care enough.
:lau I also know better, ... it just didn't seem right to try and excuse my laziness.

I brought mine home from the hatchery in Feb I think and kept them in the bathroom for 6 weeks. Mostly because of the weather but I really enjoyed having them so close. Not recommending, just sayin'. :p They turned into a fine little flock anyway. lol

Oh trust me, I’ve already been down that route!! Lol my last flock was in the bathroom for 3 weeks and then the garage for another 4 weeks and they finally moved outside at 7 weeks lol but they had been going out during the day since they moved to the garage, I just didn’t trust the prefab coop and run for permanent living lol I liked having them inside but it was a major mess and also that was before we redid the bathroom and we had taken the tub out years ago so half the bathroom was a plywood subfloor and walls so it worked out really well for having chicks in it but now both the bathrooms are really nice and also the one they were in just isn’t big enough anymore because we have a huge shower and huge tub LOL so I wish but not likely! LOL plus they will likely outgrow their container soon! But I might put them in the garage again. Idk. That’s a good spot. But I want them to get used to the bigs and the bigs used to them too lol

The sooner they start getting to know the big girls the better.
Right?

That’s what I thought! I have read it makes integration much easier to brood outside and have them getting to know each other from the beginning. So I think I will stick with Monday lol and then I’m gonna try portals at 4 or 5 weeks.

I have a wicked dust mite allergy. The sort of reaction where the doctor suggested that I choose my home carefully -- no carpet, no curtains, allergy barriers on mattresses and pillows, etc. I do what I can to minimize exposure.

So, there will never be a chicken in my house for more than an absolutely essential and temporary visit. Like the injured chick that stayed in the kids' shower for a few hours. Other than that, no way, no how.

Those with a more normal response to dust can choose differently. I don't care, really. I just see nothing but benefits to putting them out.

Oh wow that sounds awful!! Can’t imagine having allergies like that! But that said, I do think I need to implement some of those things or clean cause sometimes but not always I cough and sneeze in my room. And I do not think you would survive our house. but I do want to move them outside. They’re cute but I worry about every little noise they make LOL

If sum1 txs me like this.
I dnt rspnd.
If someone tries to text me, it never gets here. My land line does not accept texts and it is the only phone I have. One of my nieces asked my brother why I never reply to her texts. He told her about my phone. I guess she did not believe him because the last time she was here, she asked me why I never reply to her texts and I just pointed at the phone hanging on the wall. She replied "Oh!"

:lau OMG lol how old is she? Because if she grew up after landlines were a thing/with only a cellphone, she might not realize not everyone has one lol we still had a landline when I was a kid and we still do but everyone’s had cellphones for years but we just still have one. And I didn’t get a cellphone until 8th grade and even then it was a shitty brick but people had them 6th and 7th and the stylish flip ones LOL I didn’t even get a smartphone till way after high school :lau  But some kids these days that have just always had a screen in front of their face be it tablet, cellphone, laptop, TV, whatever, may find it extremely hard to believe that there are still people who don’t have or use that technology or that that technology ever even existed lol and most kids these days HATE phone calls and would much rather text or tweet or FB message or IM or whatever. No one calls anymore. Or hardly. Although admittedly I am guilty of that as well  but that’s partially cause of anxiety. I just hate talking on the phone. But if they’re a close friend then it’s kinda fun lol but I don’t have too many of those :lau

She is old enough that she grew up with a land line only. Lots of people just assume that everyone has a mobile phone just like there was a time when people thought that everyone had a computer. I still know people that don't have a computer or any wireless devices.
