Guy had a bunch of poults given to him because they"looked" like wild turkeys...he was going to let them free....they came from big r which only sells BB We told him to butcher

My only consolation, there were large thunderstorms earlier this week. I'm thinking that they took to wing themselves. DD suggested I take her to the city park with the other ducks. I'm doubtful friendly would survive the kids, much less the dogs. Even my chickens aren't this tolerant of me.

You could try to list it on CL? Beautiful girl. Have you seen any eggs? My oldest drake is in eclipse right now and looks female, but you said this one quacks, so I assume it really is a female? Drakes can’t fly while they are in eclipse plumage. They lose their flight feathers.

Chicken feed is ok, it’s probably better than what they’ve had. Flock raiser or an all-flock would be better, but whatever you have will do.

What do I need to look for? I'd say this was a healthy female mallard/Rouen looking duck. Gorgeous. I picked her up and no wing beating, no biting and walked 3 houses to my place.

No lice. Healthy looking feathers. Gorgeous. Reading the differences between mallards and rouens, I'm not convinced there are any. Anything else I need to check for? Wings and legs are fine. Nose or nares are clear. Eating, drinking and pooping. Looks healthy. Not happy in the kennel.

First issue, clip wings. Then chicken tractor for a week to meet the chickens? She is already here, but is 20 feet from the chicken area. Still figuring the biosecurity issues. Not happy having a duck thrust upon us.

Mallards and rouens are similar. I can never remember, one has 2 eye stripes, the other has 1, but I always confuse them. Mallards are smaller, I believe. I wonder if she escaped from a predator and may be in a bit of shock. Ducks are not known to be so friendly, especially with strangers. Mine tolerate me, but catching one is a different story. Lots of members here in the duck forums ask why their ducks go crazy on them and lose their friendliness as they grow up.

You may even consider leaving the wings intact and if she wants to fly off, then so be it??

Personally, I think ducks carry much less diseases than chickens or other wild animals. I would still observe good biosecurity, but the chances of her passing anything to your birds is less risky than adopting someone's unwanted chickens.

I've never heard anyone being so successful on picking up a duck and then them just tolerating it. She may enjoy some friends, but chickens are nice even if they don't speak quack.

Neighbor chased it around the yard without her flying off. I chased less than 5 feet. Then grabbed and picked. Very little struggle. Way too easy.
