The right shoes make ALL the difference. I spend a pile of money on sneakers because I know what works for me and it's (unfortunately) not cheap. Sometimes I get lucky and find a good sale. I buy more than one pair when that happens.

I figured out a few years ago that Salomon uses the last that suits me best. I can wear Asics too and those are actually stocked at the local stores but their colors often make me cringe. Very masculine for the neutrals and when they think female, they head straight to the early 80s for their palette. Salomon has some wild combos but they aren't all clown vomit so I tend to end up with their less crazy options.

I had to try on a crap ton of shoes to figure this out. Also, to discover that popularity doesn't mean jack if your feet aren't typical. Brooks, Nike, Sketchers, Mizuno, and New Balance don't work for me. At all. Not even the ones my friends swore were the best shoes ever...

Amazon has a lot of free returns items and thank goodness for that! I have tried on a lot of stuff that isn't sold locally this way. And, they actually have some good deals on last year's colors when the new stuff rolls out!

I learned a long time ago to get multiple pairs of shoes/boots that work for me when I find them. I would wear out a pair of boots in one year. By having two pair and wearing a different pair every day, it did not double the life of the shoes but made the shoes last two to three times longer. When they were discontinuing the boots that I wear, I bought a bunch of them and wear a different pair every day. They were discontinued over 10 years ago and they are holding up fine for me.

Did you finish your homework?
Nope, there’s little to no homework on the first week. I’m stressed enough trying to figure out how to get from class A to class B without breaking a leg.
How do we get the Carpy out of his funk?
Conan nailed it.
Hubby deals with this constantly, ask him lol. I’ve struggled with depression since high school; I’m not any better, I’ve just adapted and know myself better now.
Dealing with someone who’s depressed is a fine line of supporting them while constantly wanting them to change. You can’t guilt them out of it because they already feel like the biggest loser in the world. The only advice I have... keep inviting them to do things or encouraging them to move, and don’t support the self pity mentality.
Not much past that.. they have to learn how your their own brain ticks to function.
And tbh I am sure other people hated it too. People tend to wear a lot of masks
Ding ding ding.
This is the key to getting past the self pity of depression. Everyone’s life sucks. Everyone is struggling.
You have to keep moving toward your goals, one foot in front of the other.
Life is a rollercoaster: sometimes you go upside down, sometimes you even do loops and feel like you’re going backwards. The trick is to never stop pushing forward.
Seems you already knew most of it which is probably why you felt like you weren’t learning :lau
Here’s a mind blower for you..
High school isn’t about learning, it’s about teaching you how to learn.
I’ve been in school for a long time and will be for quite some time. I’m only just now learning stuff that I really NEED to know.. yes, before this I learned some key concepts that have been built upon, but very few things actually related to veterinary medicine.
It wasn’t a waste of time or stress. It taught me how to learn, and how my brain works. This is why so many smarty pants high schoolers flunk out of their freshman year of college. They’re so used to cruising through easy A classes, but they end up only learning how to cram or abuse the system, not how to learn. ;)

Goooood morning crusty crew.

Kiki, I should’ve bought the grandma shoes. :hit I’ve got blisters from my damn converse.
I’m currently wearing toms with fluff from the dogs’ stuffed animal squished in to cushion my poor toes.
:gig

:hugs

That depends on you. The only way you'll get out of this hole is by sheer damn willpower.
Trust me, I know exactly where you're coming from. I also know you're probably thinking I don't and wouldn't say that if I really did know. Maybe therapists and meds and encouragement can shove some dirt down in your hole to make it easier to climb out of, but they can't fill it in completely. That effort only comes from you.
I don't expect you to get up tomorrow and be normal. It's not a switch, it's a slow, painful process. Did I mention painful? Because it is. I can't say anything that would be helpful. I know what I've already said will bounce off as well. That's okay. I'm just hoping you'll remember it when, from meds or not, you manage to lay your hands on the tiniest shred of willpower and resolve to do just one thing with it, even though the pain hasn't changed and you still don't have the energy.

You said your sleeping issues were the root of it. I agree with that, but I also saw several patterns in the way you described why it was causing depression (I forget where this was) that makes me think you're also dealing with underlying anxiety. Of course, that's just the impression I got from one single post. (I also think that dividing mental issues up into tidy little piles doesn't work. Basically, something goes wrong and makes your mind hit the klaxons, which makes EVERYTHING go wrong.)

I'm glad you have a few appointments scheduled, though. Hopefully you'll be able to see a doctor.

I didn't think you would.

I hear you there as well. School bored me to tears for a long time and I was failing in a lot of subjects because I couldn't be bothered to do the assignments. Getting my hands on some college textbooks changed that. Suddenly, they were talking about interesting things, and they gave me the answers to the questions I didn't even know I had. I got through high school that way; by taking my boring work to the library's reference section to make it into something cool.

I think you should take just one class at a community college. I'm not up to date on what the prices are now, but it shouldn't be that expensive. Feelings lie, by the way.

It'll be a barrier. But not an impossible one. Maybe make a friend there so they can give you a sheet of notes for the classes you do end up sleeping through.

Good morning!! Ouch... get those grandma shoes.

Amazon some grandma shoes tonight.

Thanks this is really helpful. I’m going to look into those brands. I need some good shoes. None of mine are very comfortable. :/

My kids made me watch this video this morning. So, here you go:

:goodpost: But also :hugs :hugs :hugs

And you are so right on all of it.

And I know what you mean about the not guilting/feeling like a loser thing cause I’ve definitely felt exactly like that and still sometimes do even now. Course now I actually kind of am since I don’t jack shit :lau but even when I was still in school, I’d still feel like that. Actually, school made me feel way worse. I’m better now since I’m out oddly hah you at least are doing amazing things and definitely the furthest from that. :hugs

But you’re basically describing me :lau :hide

I’m definitely a lot better than I was before though and hopefully you are too. Hopefully Carpy can get there. I believe he can. I was bad in HS too but college, 6, 7 years ago, was probably the worst I’ve been and that’s the one I eventually dropped out of, but I made it out (and eventually graduated from a different school. Even if it is only a two year and even if it did take me like 6 years :lau ) and I think he can too. He just has to find the light which can be really hard, nearly impossible, when you’re in it but it’s there. And I hope he does find it. For his sake. :fl :hugs

And I hope you do too if you haven’t already. :hugs

And yet again you are so wise. Love that quote and I also loved that one you posted a while ago about progress not being linear or whatever. It was so wise. :love

And that’s a good point about high school. I never thought of it like that before but that makes sense.

You are one smart cookie Tessie.

Hey...don't go nuts again today.
Do some of your list...even some of the things you checked off yesterday but don't worry about finishing it all today.

Do put your phone away again for at least four hours and NO cheating today.

X2

Kdog is awake before noon.
:celebrate

I’m always awake before noon lately :lau

I just don’t normally always post right away but I’ve been getting up like 9 or 10 lately, or sometimes 11 lol

Last night I happened to barely sleep. Tried to fall back asleep some this morning, didn’t really work but I stayed in bed anyway. Did sleep some I guess. But I initially woke up at like 5:30, quarter to 6 (after having gone to bed at like quarter to 3) and couldn’t go back to sleep but I think I eventually did and woke up around 8 or 9, idk. Tried to stay in bed and sleep more lol I think it worked cause I woke up just after 10 :lau

Anyway, I should have put the phone down and gone to bed at like 11 but even then I don’t think it would have worked because I was so wired. Idk why. But I couldn’t sleep cause of it cause I wasn’t tired despite all that work. :(

Maybe tonight I will be able to sleep more. I am going to try putting the phone down and reading a book.

I think I am coming down with a cold though or already have one. Woke up feeling like total crap this morning but I’m going to take some vitamins or some cold medicine or something and hopefully feel better haha

I wish I could just stay in bed all day but I also have to work today so I gotta at least do that. Thankfully that’s only like a half hour, hour and then I can rest. But I’m not going to, not to worry. Just that I could ha but I’m gonna get a ton done. Made a new list for today.

But I might need to change a few things. Not sure if I’m up for all the physical labor again after all the work I did yesterday, still completely sore and stiff from that on top of being sick, so may need to do some inside stuff instead, but we will see. Depends if I feel better later or not.

For now I don’t think I am up for breakfast so just going to try a banana.
