Rocks. They are hardy, forage well, good layers, large enough for meat and have good personalities. The perfect all purpose bird.
I prefer the white or blues myself

Of all the birds I have IF I had to choose and keep only one breed it would be Silkies! We just just LOVE our multicolored Fraggles!

Buff Orpingtons! They are by far the friendliest chickens I own. They are doscile and love to be held. I have 11 week old roos that will go sound asleep in your lap and the hens are very curious and loving. They are great layers of large amounts of brown eggs. If I had to choose one, which I would never do, but hypotheticly, it would be buff orps.

I've got to go with good ol RIR. They are dependable for eggs as well as personality.
