My daughter's high school biology class hatched chicks last week and my daughter brought 4 of them home for me to keep. I'm wondering what breeds these might be? I realize that they may be mixed. One of them is tiny and has 5 toes, I'm thinking it's a silkie. The all black one has a black comb, legs, beak and inside its mouth is all black, including the tongue. 2 have feathered feet. Any guesses?

Do you know where they got the eggs? That could narrow it down a bunch. Ayam Cemani could be a real good guess if that is possible.

There are several breeds that could have feathered legs. The most common are Cochin, Brahma, and some Marans but there are others.

Silkies are not the only ones with five toes. A Silkie should have a crest and a cushion (walnut) comb. The skin should be black. That might be a Silkie mix, not sure it is a Silkie.

The teacher got them from a couple different local farms. She doesn't know which ones came from where. It will be fun watching them grow and change!

Here are updated pics of my gang at 12 weeks. I heard from the lady that donated the Ayam Cemani egg....she says it’s a cross because an unknown rooster got into her breeding pen of Ayam Cemani hens! It is still 100% black inside and out. The other eggs were from someone else so still a mystery ❤️
