#1-What color will I be? #2-What breed am I?

We all know how reliable the feed stores can be...

I went to our feed store and was looking in the "Polish" brooder and found Silkies, Houdans, and Crevecours along with the Polish. My guess is that they were saying it was a cross because they weren't aware of any breeds other than Silkie that have crests, beards, muffs, feathered legs, and extra toes. If they ordered their chicks from a hatchery, a lot of feed stores will get the "top hat special" which can consist of just about any crested breed but they advertise them as Polish.

That's the first thing that came to mind for me was it was a sultan until you said it was a crossbred. Are you sure it's a cross because I'm seeing yellow feet and not even smutty from the black skinned silkie? If it is, it should be smooth feathered and still have a decent sized top knot on it. But I'm guessing it's a sultan.

The gal up front was just guessing that it was a silkie/polish crossbred. From what I've seen, it sure looks like a sultan.

Guesses from people who don't know chickens are like assumptions. To ass|u|me makes an a** out of u and me as the old saying goes.

You're right about that akcountrygrrl. They had one bin marked "Polish" where I got the two and they had another bin marked "bantams" like that's a breed. I was looking in the bantam bin because someone on here gave me a heads up that's the bin where they had found silkies. He asked what I was looking for and told him silkies. He had no idea what a silkie was or how to identify it. They also have "auracanas", but those are really ee's.

High Roost Ranch-that is why I come to you guys, LOL! I knew people on here would be much more knowledgeable! Thanks again!

Ours does the mixed bantam bin too but this year they were throwing the banties in with the "Polish". Really made it confusing for everyone. At least my feed store respects other people's knowledge unlike some of the horror stories I've read on here about certain feed and farm supply stores. Good luck with your babies. They'll be lovely birds.
